Tour de France, 15th to 17th July - Vittel

I may pop over to France for a couple of stages of Le Tour next month.

Looking to go over on 15th July, returning on 17th July and watching stages 12 & 13 between Tonnerre and Colmar, staying in a campsite near Vittel which is slap bang in the middle.

Plan to travel on The Eurotunnel.

Currently going solo but anyone else fancy it??

Final details

Eurotunnel 15th July @ 07:50 out. 17th July @ 22:20 return.

Campsite http://www.camping-vittel-thermal-vosges.com/

Don't use the email address on the website, phone is OK though use the following:

Contact Cynthia using vittel.camping@orange.fr

The plan is to ride straight to Vittel and pitch up, evening, food and :beer:
Next day ride to watch the stage into Vittel, somewhere along the route TBC.
Back to the campsite for the evening for food and :beer:

Next day pack up and travel to a spot on the next stage TBC.

Then travel back to the tunnel for the return.

Why did you choose these stages in particular ? Are they good places to watch ?

Yes, I'm going, all booked up. Mate on an RT going too.

The choice was made as I don't have a lot of time to spare but have always wanted to see part of the race. These two stages are virtually the furthest North it will go, except for the final parts near Paris. The first stage into Vittel is fairly flat and the second out of Vittel is hilly. I plan to ride to a midpoint on both to watch the race pass.

The more the merrier:thumb

Got pass out from home but work is getting in the way. Will know by Mon pm.

Only just spotted this, sorry Dave.

We had a brilliant time. Nice ride down to Reims for lunch and then we rode part of the Thursday stage into Vittel, starting from the memorial to Charles De Gaul.

Campsite in Vittel had a great atmosphere and was only 1km from the main town.

We watched the race and preamble from the 500 metre mark, it was 35C, baking hot but really enjoyable. Partied into the early hours and back to the tent. Pissed down all night unfortunately and into the next day too

The Friday morning we packed up and left the campsite by 08:30 as the roads were closing at 09:00. We went the end of the first category mountain to watch and then headed home from there.

900 miles in three days and we only actually rode two of those days.

All in all well worth the journey, awesome atmosphere and I managed to get a drinks bottle thrown by Contador :bow

Deffo do it next year.

Good stuff.
Always wanted to follow the tour around, but never had the time.
Hopefully if my nephew is riding in it one year I will have a good excuse to make time.

Beemers and Kwaks...as i thought.

The Kwaks are supplied and the beemers are private......not much other jap stuff....

Be a fantastic 3 weeks to drive round france on the Tour as a job:cool:
