Xmoto bash plate installation

I've bought theBMW aluminium bash platte to fit to my Xmoto, the idea being to keep some of the road crud off the engine rather than off road protection. It's been supplied with two rubber bungs which should be mounted on the inside of the plate to rest against the engine. The bash plate doesn't have the holes in it to install these though. Before I start drilling are they needed for this model of bike or are they meant for one of the other models in the range?
