Don't know either..but...Maybe try one of the BMW dealers.. You'd never know what they have lying around gathering dust that they'd take an offer on?

Other than that, If your friend is serious about a particular one maybe get the frame number and call BMW to see if the usual recall stuff is done (fuel pump controller & ring antenna).
After that, do a wiggle on the back wheel to see if there is play in the final drive bearings.
 
get the registration and give AR14 a shout, it may have been through his place. if it was, he could give you some info of the work done.

Was in a dealer a few weeks back. He offered me a bike for €7-8K cash which he had listed at about 11k I think. It was an RT, but they are hungry to move bikes for cash, so tell your friend to haggle if he goes to a dealer.
