I want to solder a bare wire GPS cable into the rear brake loop of my Yamaha XT660R. So I strip the positive wire of the brake loop, but, as I am not actually cutting and creating a bare end in the brake wire loop, what is the correct technique for soldering the +ve GPS cable wire into the brake wire loop? - do I just simply solder and create a "Y" type connection, in which the GPS cable is soldered directly onto the exposed but still unbroken brake cable? (and earth somewhere onto bike frame)

Errm - are you sure you mean the brake cable? Or do you only want the GPS to be powered when you're actually applying the brakes?

I suspect you mean the rear light cable :nenau

But yes, a 'y' is what you're looking for.

Don't use the brake light feed! Or, the GPS will only be live when you use the brakes.... :blast

Assuming it permanently on with the ignition, use the rear light feed.

The negative wire just attach to any suitable earth.

Don't forget to insulate / weatherproof your solder joint or it will short out on something.
