Tried these back to back today.

Basically - I thought the Yamaha was very cheaply made and the Ducati was an expensive treat.

I think Yamaha have just made a cheap copy of an 1150GS and I would much rather pay £6000 for a good 2nd hand one of those.

Just take a look at the horrible rims - is the bike made in china ?

I would be suprised if the Yamaha isnt discounted to around £8k (or is it the exchange rate making up the price ?)

Looking around at the other bikes in the range - they all look like this - maybe the modern motorcyclist doesnt see it but when I look at a bike I tend to think about how the components are manufactured and parts that are stamped out look vulgar.

The Ducati is beautiful but if thats 150 bhp then it didnt feel like it.

Not solid enough for my 20k + annual mileage but I could probably stretch to it if I was only doing 5000 miles in the summer.

In summary - BMW have nothing to worry about.

and they have the dealers and spares to back their bikes up.

I thought the same when I looked over a new R1 at the London bike show. The frame welding was absolutely dreadful. I'd be ashamed to ride it.

Cheers, Colin.
