Just about to start a +9600 mile trip thru' USA from Boston to San Fran, via 26 towns called Manchester. taking in 22 states, and 36 days.
Adding Tail of the Dragon in Tennesse, the Cherohala SkyRoad in Alabama and many more 'best Roads', I guess I can add a few routes to make R66 a bit ordinary.
Follow me at Unitedstatesofamanchester.blogspot.com or twitter @Road2Manchester Facebook/roadtomanchester or via the Bennetts Biker Dream on facebook etc:

Sad thing..... leaving my GSa at home as they are hiring me a Goldwing 1800.

Wow,lucky man.I was in Tennesse a few years ago and saw a man wearing a "Tail of the dragon" Tshirt.I thought it was an Isle of man TT shirt at first.Unfortunately, when I mentioned to my wife that I would like to hire a bike and do it,she only said Mmmmmmmmmmmm,In a way that said "No way"
I will go back though, and do it.Bucket list. Why am I so boring? I should have done it by now! Have a great or cool time (I dont know your age) Are you a jorno, have I possibly read your book? :beerjug:

The Dragon (or Deals Gap) is pretty good but there are much better roads in the area in my opinion:thumb Make sure you ride the Blue Ridge Parkway as far as you can down to Cherokee. It's absolutely stunning:D

Deals Gap is 11 miles of this:

It's a hard life :)

Make sure you ride the Blue Ridge Parkway as far as you can down to Cherokee.

Be careful on the Dragon, lots of loonies there. And do not speed on the Blue Ridge Parkway! That pretty much goes for all state and national parks. Loads of park rangers around, and the fines are way higher than usual. And if you don't have cash, they are likely to jail your ass for relatively modest speeds. With the low speed limits, I found I had to get off the parkway.

For those who like nothing better than scraping pegs on very tight, technical roads, I have yet to see anything better than Deals Gap. Personally, I prefer the faster but much less dangerous sweepers on the Cherohala Skyway. :thumb2

My favorite road of all, however, is one known to local riders as 'The Snake'.

Skyway on the lsit

leaving this Friday (a week earlier than planned), due to Lord Mayors parade in Manchester UK when I (now) get back. (apparently I am now riding my bike in the parade as a return to home thingy) :pullface

Skyway is included, and I hope I get to see plenty more great roads as a fly by.

PUT YOUR dot on my revolver globe and take a peek at the Manchesters List and miles between each town on my blog.

Funny - I'm n Manchester now. I'll be heading down to the Deal's Gap area June 3-6. So if you're in the area then, I can show you around a bit.

Any idea when you'll be in Indiana to visit our two Manchesters? Might ride with you a day there if you don't mind.

Well there you go

Deals Gap on a Goldwing.... ohhhhhh yaaaarrs
Well after 8525 miles, in sun, rain, winds , 118 degree F> 43 F, 300-748 miles in a day, being chased out of a forrest by gun toting Hill Billys, Enjoying the fantastic hospitality of the very cheery American folk, and joining a few of the 6600 visitors to my blog, I am home.
The Dragon was great, the top end of the Highway 1 where it meets the 101, (West coast) was as good. The 125mph romp over Wyoming plateau at 7am was great, and the average speeds of 80-90 on the freeways was normal.
Riding the Wing at 15 degrees to the right one day in 100F winds was a bugger, then next day 46F winds from the left was just annoying, but hey ho !
DO AMERICA its a facinating place but very very big ! East Coast Appalachian Mountains brill, (via Washington DC would make a great hire holiday), Montana and Sturgis do-able.

Lots of PR/Media stuff going on since I got back Saturday.
Thanks to Bennetts Biker Dreams and they are doing the comp again right now
so get on line and fill in the form. ITS FREE.

Ben, Cory, Red, and all those who put me up (or put with me), CHEERS:beer::beerjug:

Thanks to BBC, MCN, Rock Radio, Capital FM, and all the other great interviewers.

Se y'all at the Horizons Unlimited in Ripley next weekend.

I did Deals Gap and the surrounding area a few years ago.

I used to be on a Suzuki SV forum and a girl from there lent me her SV650 to use, I'd never met her yet she got the bike transported from Florida to 'The Gap' for me!

I finished the holiday off at SBK at Laguna Seca, probably one of the best trips I've ever done.

The road itself is amazing but yes, there are a few silly boys and girls that ride it.

You wait until there are 11 UKgser's running Deals Gap on Sunday 7th August. All on dirt bikes with knobblies which should scare the shit out of the local wannabee's:D

Its big alright - i did 14K miles in 86 in a '$250 mercury cougar :D
