Hi all
i have an i-phone 4 and want to download tom tom or similar .Do i need to have a sim card installed ? I do not use it as a phone (not very good signal locally) I would like to use it as a sat nav /media player etc .I was hoping that i do not need to use a network sim card .

not sure, but maybe you do.

use a free PAYG sim to make it work

I think the Apple GPS system uses cell towers for partial triangulation to aid positioning so may need sim

I have tomtom on my iphone

From what I have seen of the iphone, there is no reason to require a sim card in it.
Anyway, just go & try to download it. If sim gard is required, which I doubt, then it won't happen.

Hi All
I have downloaded navfree on the i phone turned off the roaming gizmos no sim card and it works brilliantly ! Got a waterproof motorcycle mount with powerlead of ebay and am chuffed to bits .So no sim card needed in i-phone for sat nav .Thanks for all the input cheers .
