Gonna pick up my GS tomorrow. Need to give her a quick service.

Is this oil deal good enough for the 1150 GS (2001 model)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silkolene...53?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item45fba7a21d

And is this stuff the right oil for the gearbox and rear drive?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTUL-90P...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5d2fa297eb

And while I am at it how about this for fuel filter?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-FUEL-...36?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item45fba8fc24

Or should I just get one of these service kits and a couple of bottles of oil? (Not sure if this kit includes the poly belt which is what I was looking for)

Any help appreciated.

NO; you don;t want 10/40
Yes: perfect
Yes it's right
Maybe easier to buy it, In one go

engine oil 20w-50 mineral minimum spec SJ is good enough as it only does the engine
gearbox/finaldrive EP 80/90 GL5 semi syn give good results halfords stock it
OEM filters are good enough

SF is minimum spec, Youll have to look hard for a decent 20/50 though

If it's any help, my local 'Shell' petrol station is selling Morris 'Goldenfilm' SF 20/50 mineral at £20.00 for 5 litres. Might be some at yours?

Or, 'Doc', the FJ club version of Steptoe, always recommends Morris 'Ring Free' 20/50 for the FJs. That's a mineral, but not sure where you'd get it other than FJ club, or direct from Morris online. About £20.. for 5 litres.

Jeez... so many different opinons....

Me... 10/40 semi synthetic.... had the same in at least 5 1150's.... didn't burn any oil at all in the last trip a month ago to Garmisch... including a 600 mile motorway day ... so I'll be sticking with that :thumb

But it will run much smoother, if you use a heavier oil, And
won't cookup in traffic either.15/50 or 20/50 is where you need to be.

In your opinion.....

Yes both mine and BuMW
Jeez don't anyone read their handbook? To busy fitting xtra light's and such crap:bounce1
Anyone ride around when it's -20 outside?

10/40 only good for +20 ambient,So near the limit Today!

People talk a load of Shite about oil in BMW's the only stuff good enough for a BMW is:-

Lambda, the world’s first ultra premium olive oil . Lambda is also known as the Rolls Royce of olive oils. This royal oil from the Kritsa region of Crete, boasts extremely low acidity, intense fruity notes and an unforgettable aftertaste. It is hand extracted and cold pressed from Koroneiki olives, from a region known for its extremely rich soil. Shipped in a stylish bottle, the packaging is also at par with its expensive title. You can also buy this perfect olive oil from Speiron.
Lambda can be bought for about $50 US per bottle (minimum order of 2) or $200 US for a bottle of Lambda in the signature gift box.

It can be obtained from Harrods, you know it makes sense !!!!

I normally get my Castrol 20 / 50 in 1 litre tubs from Hein Gerrike (or however it's spelt).
