Evening,

Does the Block Exemption that lets you get your car serviced at any VAT registered garage apply to bikes too?

We have an independent Ducati specialist near us and his work is superb. The other half's Triumph is needing a service and I'd rather get him to do it that the local Triumph dealer.

If he used genuine parts, follows the service schedule and gives me a VAT receipt is the warranty still valid?

Cheers

It's not the VAT receipt (more proof they are a company not a cowboy)... it's the list of serial numbers of the parts...

Double check in the Triumph manual exactly what they require... but generally it is the part serial numbers....

As long as you use parts that meet the OEM specification you should be ok. The easiest way to do this is to buy genuine Triumph parts and keep the receipt, but some of their parts prices are a laugh. For example, a fuel filter for the 955 Triumphs is £36, but it is the same part that is used on the K75/100 and R1100/1150 BMW's. You can buy it for half the Triumph price from a BMW dealer. Alternatively Opie Oils sell the filter as it is made for BMW and Triumph by Mahle and it would be even cheaper from them.

if there was a problem later....the importer will try to wriggle out , use genuine parts and they cannot argue . who ever does the work has to be " competent " so anyone who you trust with your bike should be ok, anyone with a good reputation . or any ex-bmw shop techie , they can't argue with that, cos he will have worked in one of their dealerships...so he must be ok !
