Garmin map update?

Just got notification that the latest maps are available....

Then got the message there is insufficient space for the full western Europe and to insert an SD card......

Already slimmed down the crap by removing the voice prompts in different languages etc...and theres only 122 mb available....

For the time being i'm downloading the update for NW Europe ( Britain and France etc....

Question is.... the card with my music on has 6Gb available, but how do I put the map update onto that, and does the fact there's music already on it cock things up?

Also can I just go back in and add countries? you used to be able to... there is no whay I'll ever need Scandinavia or Greece, and probably not Portugal or Spain.... so If I could get rid if some of these the update would have enough space....

are you using garmin express for the update? that caused me no end of problems with space..

Dear fed up and pissed off user of garmin crap software

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

I?m sorry you?re having trouble with your Garmin device and am happy to
help you.

Unfortunately we do not design our units to be future proof and this
includes mapping updates. The new mapping has a lot of extra detail and
this has increased the size of the file more than the previous year?s
increases. This increase means that you can get a region of the mapping
on the unit depending on the space you have available. You will need an
SD Card to load all of Europe to the device.

You can purchase an SD card from the Garmin website at the below link:

In order to update the map I recommend running through the map update
using an alternative method.( to garmin express which we now realise is total sh*t)

Please click the link below to download and run the map update:

1. Click on Run.
2. You will see the progress of the download of our software this can
take several minutes.
3. Click on Run.
4. You will see the progress of the extraction of our software this can
take several minutes.
5. Click on Continue.
6. Read the Software License Agreement if you agree with this tick the
box and then click Continue.
7. You may then see this screen which is updating the software on your
device this may take several minutes. Once this is done please click on
Continue.
8. You will then need to follow the instructions on the mapping update
wizard then click on Continue.
9. If you are prompted to please enter your product key for your
download. If you do not have the product key this can be found as stated
in the instructions on the wizard. Then click on Continue.
10. The download will now communicate with our website. Once this has
been done click on Continue.
11. Click on View Options to select the region that you want, if you are
unable to select your desired region to due space limitations select UK
& Ireland and click Install to Device and Computer.
12. You will see the mapping being downloaded and then sent across to
your unit. Once this has been done click on Continue.
13. The mapping has been successfully updated on your Garmin device
click on Exit.

Now the maps have installed you have UK & Ireland only on the device and
Full Coverage of Europe on your computer, I have attached a step by step
guide to help you install the rest of the mapping you need to an SD
Card.

PLEASE NOTE: nuvi 3xx/6xx devices cannot read files larger than 2GB so
make sure you do not send over any files larger than 2GB.

Well it appears that by downloading and using Garmin Express the install has worked
