Hi all,

I'm rebuilding an XR600 and need to find a good workshop to rebore (may just need a hone), recut valve seats and repair a worn cam journal (possibly modifiy it to hold split shell bearings?) in or near Northampton.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks in advance,

A

Funnily enough, I have a cylinder head here for my XR600 that needs a set of valve guides putting in....I'll keep an eye on this thread.:thumb2

T&l engineering in Bedford

Very good at what they do at resonable prices, use tnem for our recon/repairs at work:thumb2

Well that went well - NOT

No answer from Moorespeed or T & L. SEP wants over £200 just to repair the cam journal!

Now I think I need the conrod replacing too - you can see the waggle of the gudgeon pin in the little end! This motor is becoming a basket case but I'm committed!

Any more local contacts please?

There must be loads in Northampton - Cosworth/Ilmor(Mercedes)/all that F1 around here.

Thanks in advance.

Try joy engineering they specialise in camshaft work, also look online for xr600 bits from the states , cheap if you know someone over there who can send them as pressies

I missed the bit where you said you wanted it for free!

I'll keep my suggestions to myself in future.

Sorry Rob but what did I do? :nenau

The same repair in the US (cf ADVrider) is £100-125, so I think double that is expensive.

Anyone used Knight Engine Services in Nether Heyford? Looks techy enough.

I'm going in! About to split the cases on the XR - wish me luck (never done a gearbox before). I know it needs a countershaft (worn splines - common on road-used XRs which have no cush drive).
