I needed a new project so picked up a new 690 Enduro. I have a feeling this bike may not be available in 2016 although Husqvarna will grace us with effectively the same bike in the form of their new 701 Enduro.

Anyhow, here's a list of the mods so far:

Fork graphics
Billet sprocket guard
Uprated shock spring 95nm
Uprated stainless steel spring collar

Uni Filter:
Oz foam filter*

Perun:
Rear carrier

Seat Concepts:
Seat

KTM Power Parts:

Evo 1 air box cover
Side stand removal unit
Radiator guard
Aluminium hand guards
Rally replica footpegs

Adventure Spec:

Engine case protectors

Adventure Bike Shop:
Tank bag - Giant Loop Diablo Pro

R&G:
Paddock stand bobbins

Winding Roads:
Double USB weatherproof outlet

Wings:

Not to put too fine a point on it - how much does all that come to?

I have long fancied a 690 but have been put off by all the work/cost that seems to be required to make it the travel bike I really want, so I am collecting real world upgrade costs.

To change my gearbox which lowers first gear by 16% and raises the final gear by 9% cost £3000

Renazco seat £350
Rear shock £1000
Sump guard £350
Thermostat for radiator approx £50

Most of the stuff is on Rally Raid Products website

That's expensive!

I installed a RR upgraded spring and shock collar - about £130
Seat Concepts seat, cheaper than Renazco
Adventure Spec bash plate £180

I think the essential items are RR upgraded subframe fixings, radiator protection (either RR or KTM), handguards (KTM fit without trimming or modification), a comfy aftermarket seat (apparently the KTM powerparts item is no good so Renazco or Seat Concepts). Maybe a bashplate - flatlands is apparently cheap and rather good.

Only my opinion, but the rest of the farkles can probably wait. Extra fuel if you're going to Mongolia, other than that, save money and carry a Rotopax.

The Perun rear rack is excellent. The Wings exhaust equally so (and well priced).

I'd say £1000 would leave the bike nicely sorted for some pottering around.

I'm still waiting for my 690 to be delivered so haven't had a chance to have a look yet, but is the Cyclops light the 'Euro' style BA20D base one with a rectifier attached or is it a direct, DC fed H4 replacement?

I have a couple of 690s, a 2013 in Spain, and a 2014 in the UK. I was mildly interested in the wider gearing until I saw the price!

What I've done
Both now have Metal Mule pannier rails and rear carrier.
Both have Wings exhausts as the stock exhaust coupled with 40ºC plus hot sun would melt my kit.
I've fitted louder horns on both.
The Spain/Morocco bike has the pretty useless KTM touring screen.
The UK bike has the Lynx R fairing with HID dip and Squadron LED high beam
Both have wiring for heated jacket and GPS.

What I've not done
Both came new with handguards.
I've done mega one day rides (700+ miles) on both bikes and I'm OK sitting at up to 80mph with stock gearing.
Seats are still standard, I use the pillion pegs to vary my seating position on long days.
No extra fuel capacity, I find the 11.7-litre tank OK.
Still on plastic bash plates, I have an aluminium one but will probably sell it.

What to do next
Because I travel off-tarmac with luggage in Morocco I will fit the RR tank bolts
I have some tiny LEDs I'm looking to mount in the handguards as aux lights to show I'm not a moped

My most recent UK jaunt was a traverse of the Outer Hebrides.

Here's an unfortunately incomplete account of my most recent Morocco trip.

Are the Rost crash bars the same as the Rally Raid ones?
To get them sent from SA is £188 before worrying about import duties and taxes, from RR is £192, why did you go for the Rost ones?

Don't expect to hear from John any time soon! He's been a naughty boy and is unlikely to be selling any more bikes on this forum
