Looking for some advice - I'm getting used to my new 1200GS and whilst I think there's a whole lot less (yes less) buffeting than my old 1150 - I'm getting really bothered by by helmet which isnt the quietest in the world - in fact the wind noise is utterly deafening, even with ear plugs- I've got a AraiRx7RR and whilst it's great on my blade its hideous on the GS - what are you using - what's the best advice you've got??

You can spend a lot of money trying lots of helmets but in the end there is little to gain - best buy your self a good set of custom ear plugs and be happy you saved a lot of money on helmets.

I've got the same bike and the same helmet and the buffeting is just as bad as it was on my 1150GS before I fitted Tobinators. The GS is pretty poor for buffeting at the best of times but we also compound that by having a very noisy helmet with vents on top.

I've tried the 1200 screen in a few positions now and still the resonance from the buffeting is bad.

I was going to buy a Secdam (?) screen from Nippy's but decided today, whilst being buffeted on the M4, that I'd try the 1200 Tobinators before shelling out on a new screen.

I'm hoping they'll do the trick like they did before. I'll be ordering on Monday so hope to get them next week. Will try and remember to feedback.

Got those too and they don't help as much as you'd think, even when hooked up to the Autocom with noise canceling.

Roof full face. Quiter than my Craft full face, which I can't use without ear plugs at over 60. Roof is better, but I still wear ear plugs. Lok at the ads in the bike mags, when it was released it was praised for its quietness.

BMW System 5 helmet. Ridiculously expensive but incredibly quiet, light, and comfortable.

Schuberth C2

Much better than my old Arai RX-7RIV but then what wouldn't be:rolleyes:

I can't say the Scuberth is the quietest there is because I haven't tried them all but in my opinion it is prety good.

Boys an AraiRx7RR is not meant to be quiet its race orientated. Light strong and functional

So get a life and pick an shoei that ill fit

Thumbs up

for the Roof option. My Diversion 010 is the quietest lid I've ever owned. Combined with a good set of custom made lug plugs from someone like this and you're a lot safer for sure.

Roof Lids

...And check out the For Sales. Got a nice Red one for sale at the momement at a give away price!!!!

Sorry for the hijack guys!!!;)

I've got an Arai RX7 and it's great quality but crap for wind noise. I prefer to use my wifes Shoei XR1000 - it's comfy and quiet and I test rode it on a GS1200 last week and had no problems with buffeting or noise (picking up my new gs12 in 3 wks following that test ride! :) )

i find that a lot of the wind noise comes up through the bottom of the lid. If you put a hand up to the base/side of the lid while riding (doing one hand at a time obviousoly)or hunch your shoulders for a few seconds it will tell you whether have the same problem. i find that wearing a neck warmer helps block this noisy draft.

Agree with Graham, have had all sorts of helmets including arais & my BMW sport integral is the best helmet I've ever had...comfortable, quiet, light, cheap & all ready for autocom etc. Managed to get hold of a black visor for those naughty sunny days...looks awesome.

BMW Sports integeral £185 new any dealer very good all round and very quiet.......tried the rest this is the best and cheap!:beerjug:
I had one and I hated it. It was noisy on the GS as it is made for more of a sports bike so that little spoiler on the back was always at the wrong angle into the wind causing turbulence instead of smooth air. Plus it was crap in the wet. The slightest drizzle and I was practically blind and nothing I did would clear it away.

There is only one thing to do with a Sportintegral:

I have 1150GSA and Gl1800.

I fitted an aerofoil to top of 1150GSA screen and find this made a big difference. I use sys 4 helmet and moulded Ultimate plugs.

Believe it or not, the wind noise and buffeting on the GL1800 is much worse than the BM, such that I spent all yesterday testing the 3 different flip fronts that I have whilst riding the wing, including the brand new Airoh SV55 which I bought on Saturday.

The SV55 is the noisiest of the 3, but the vents are the best and the integral sun visor ( first I have owned ) is excellent. Surprising quality given the £130 price tag.

The Sys 4 is 3 years old and as such the lining has compressed, making the helmet noisier than new. There is little noise at low speed, but at 50 and above the helmet buffeting and deep droaning noise is the worst of the 3.

The quietest is the Shoei Syncrotech, which I dusted off for the test. A number of years old and now the styling is not as good as the newer models, but certainly the quietest and possibly the best overall fit.

All that said, the BW is a different bike and next weekend I will repeat the test on the GSA. I'll report back.

Incidentally, tried the Sys5 at Williams a few weeks ago, only in the shop, so not test driven it, but the quietness which BM say they have achieved is partly a factor of the size of shell they have used, which on my large head, looked like a chemical toilet with the front up ! I may ask to test drive, but in the meantime, I would value your opinion of the Sys 5.

Ever tried stopping breathing Mike ??

I guess it all comes down to a personal preference and/or luck. So - maybe I need to take my current Arai - write each helmet option on a piece of paper, place in said Arai and select away.

Seriously - I'm going to give the BMW options a go and see if I can get an on-bike test - fat chance I know.

Thanks for the contributions!!
