Well I think I really messed up. I went to hardwire my Garmin Quest into my nice new Touratech mount and now it wont work.
Has anyone hardwired their GPS mount to get rid of that clunky cigarette lighter adapter????? Please Help.

Ooops!

Just a thought - but not a very nice one i'm afraid.

You are aware that the Quest runs on 5 volts and not 12 aren't you?

Keep stum and send it back to Garmin - they'll send you a new one as they are still having quite a high failure rate.

Sherpa ;)

I've got the touratech lead, but haven't got the round tuits required to hardwire it yet.

It's going to have to go on a switched 12v supply, as the regulator would be permanently across the battery, doing neither any good in the long run.

You should still have the heatshrunk circuit board up near the mount to regulate the voltage.

Go check with a meter that you are still seeing 5v across the pins on the mount. If it's 12 you've likely toasted the Quest. Does it work in the car charger or off battery?

It ought to be a case of:-
1.checking the polarity of the red/blue wires in the plug
2.taking off the plug, extending the lead to the fuse box maintaing polarity.
3.connecting it to a switched supply.

I hardwired my Garmin Quest mount, but now I think it is not such a good idea.

It would be possible for some clown to short the contacts on the mount (with the Quest removed obviously) while parked up.
