stuck air bypass screw

Firstly a big hello to everyone, have been lurking for a while but finaly found a need to come in out of the cold!
Have just checked out my 1150 after relising it wasnt doing too well on fuel. Have done the valves etc then came to sync the carbs. The syncing isnt a problem, its the idel speed with the Left hand air bypass screw being firmly jammed in. Have managed to loosen it maybe an eighth of a turn either way but thats it! The result is an idel speed of about 8-900 revs when warm.
Im assuming some muppet has had it out in the past and threaded it back in. Whats my best option here? Bike is running ok (not sure if ive helped the MPG at all yet) but would like to get it right. Should i try and force the screw out (the head is already starting to break up) Or get it down a dealers incase bits break off inside?

Ideas????????:)
