Dodgy audio contacts: Autocom to GPS

I have neraly got my Autocom / MP3 / Phone / GPS set up but have an irritating fault on the output from the GPS

I am using the standard Garmin bike lead to power my 2610 and this has a 2.5mm audio out into which I am plugging the correct 2.5mm jack lead back to the autocom.

Trouble is, it only works if you wiggle it... I am pretty certain that the actual leads are working fine (they are both new) so the problem must be in the metal to metal interface of the jack and the female socket on the GPS lead.

Is there some way I can "tighten" this connection or spray some kind of wunder juice down the socket will make everything rosy?

A number of people have had this problem (See GPS section).
I think the only sure fire way of correcting this is to hard wire the leads together (autocom's recommendation).

I think that Garmin are aware of the problem because I noteced that the audio lead on the Quest is now a 3.5mm socket and is a good tight fit
