Hi folks.

I picked up a new GS this morning and being understandably protective/precious about it I'd be very interested in your preferred security hardware when out and about.
I'm not talking about alarms or garage security but just the disc lock/lock and chain variety. I've heard good things about the Oxford Omega but would like to know if you carry a chain+lock around with you and if so what length etc. and where do you carry it?

thanks in advance

ps. I would search for this sort of thing but the search engine doesn't seem to work too well at the mo.

When out to the corner shop just an omega disc lock.
If i have to leave it for more than 10 minutes then its a 2m kin great chain i ordered from a firm up north, were mcn recomended some time ago.

seems long enough to get around small trees near londons bike bays, but weighs as much as a small child, the touratech reaer bag thing just about holds it ( needed to reinforce the base with a bit of ply )

For short trips about town etc I use an Abus Granite disc lock. If I am going to be away for any length of time I always use my granite chain. It is big and weighs a lot but it has prevented two attempts to steal the bike ( both in France!!)

I ordered an Oxford Monster Sold Secure approved padlock and chain, 1.5m length from Carnell's website.

They now call their mail order business Bigbikebook. I've ordered several items from the sale on their site in the last 18 months and can say that this part of their business actually works.

I note that the Monster has been replaced on the BigBike website by the Boss lock & chain. Also sold secure approved and the padlock doubles as a disc lock.

£30 discount from RRP

According to http://www.oxprod.com the Monster is still available. It comes with a hand carry pouch that clips to the rear seat/luggage rack.

Note that Oxford rate the Monster (gold) as more secure than the Boss (silver).
