Anyone knows how's better to remove carbon buildup from pistons crowns?

Additives for fuel isn't that effective i've heard(?)

Simple water down to air filter and add throttle not to stall it is an old USSR method and afterwards the pistons looked like new, i guess it's too irresponsible for nowadays EFI machines?

Any other options, experiences?

Cheers, Margus :beerjug:

CARBON

...if you lift the heads, best to leave a ring of carbon on the outer edge of the piston crown, so as not to break the carbon seal; otherwise oil consumption may be a problem.

old wives tale - how would a bit of carbon on the upper surface of the piston affect oil consumption ?

however - if it wasn't pinking / pinging you should leave it anyway as a compression increaser.

or clean it with caustic soda / coca cola / simple green / todays latest fashion. ?

take some photos though - they'll work .
