Before I try again this year at Off-Roading on my Africa Twin, I decided to get a steering damper.

Just bought the Scotts Off-Road spec one from Rugged Roads.

Anybody else used the Scotts version and what do you think? Worth the money? :)

Nah, not me, I've just bought one of these. Made in the same factory using the same materials and to the same tolerances...............

Why would you pay £400ish for a Scotts damper when you could have one of these bargains :nenau

The one on my KTM is very good, when needed, which is not that often if at all on Green Lanes - Are they worth the money? if you are going to do the kind of riding that needs one yes, if its on a bike used for the odd dabble at off-roading the value is only in the hey look at my weaponised bike cock waving.

Have you been in rehab

I thought steering dampers only work above 20-25mph?

Not much scope on UK lanes

Great, I'll carry on then :D

Actually I was on holiday if you must know.

As per the advice of BlueRanger when I went riding with him, I've booked some time at Sweet Lamb Adventure Bike Academy this year, so that I can practice more with my DCT model and hopefully learn more.

So this addition was in preparation for any training there.

If I'm crap, then so be it. But at least I'm giving it a go, rather than just giving up like a pussy.

I take it you haven't read all the reviews on them :D

The same reviews I believe as Warlord's 50p Öhlins steering damper for his GS :augie

Andres

I haven't got a .50p Ohlins damper on my GS.

Firstly I've got a HyperPro Steering Damper on my GSA, and Ohlins TTX Shocks.

So what are you on about?

Nice video here explaining the Scotts Off-Road bias Steering Damper and how it works. :thumb2

The cheap Chinese Knockoff is actually getting good reviews in the comments section of this review video

1/10th of the price and actually looks identical.

Well - as long as it looks identical, that’s what counts...

I've looked at this umpteen times and it's saved in my Bay' watch list but you are the first person to confirm that it is up to the grade.. my KTM690 Enduro does need a damper and I don't have the resources for a Scotts so...:thumb2

It's just not the same as the Scotts!

The Scotts has adjustments for the arc of damping and also for the speed of input which is damped.

Scotts Steering Damper Off-Road

Well thanks to Rugged Roads quick delivery, it arrived yesterday and I was able to fit it last night.

Will let you know how I get on with it.

I bought it to help me keep control of the bike in deep ruts, rocks and mud.

The Africa Twin has no steering damper as standard (unlike the new GS and GSA BMW models) :nenau

So hopefully this'll keep me vertical for longer

That's the trouble with taking the piss, one never knows if people are taking the piss back :D

Juuuuuuuust in case you thought I was being serious dude, I absolutely was not. The damper I screen grabbed will no doubt be the biggest pile of shite in the whole wide world ever.

I just posted it up for Warlord as he's very keen to get value for money and is concerned that companies like Hyperpro and Scott sell their products for rip off prices, indeed that a 50p Chinese damper is as good as an Öhlins £500 one :D

Marginally, it might be worth buying one for the mounts alone......

Ohlins, Hyperpro and Scotts ARE RIPOFF PRICING.

I've still bought them though.....

BMW is RIPOFF PRICING as well.
