As I've posted before - there isn't a happier bunny than me when it comes to satisfaction with my 2610. One thing that puzzles me though is that it's not uncommon for it to decide to change mode all on its own (e.g it stops tracking my route when I haven't got it directing me) or for the tabbed info boxes to just disappear. It simply reset by pressing menu, but curious nonetheless. Anybody else get this?

I do like having it on without routing and also like the way I can set this so its showing me moving along at any scale.

Could be the old "sunlight on the remote receiver lense" issue.

Yup agree - two options:

a) send it back to Garmin to have the IR sensor replaced, or,
b) just stick a bit of tape (insulating or gaffer) over the IR receiver.

I never use the remote, and no intention of doing so, so opted for "b". Haven't had the problem since.

Update

In latest update 4.40 you can turn the IR Sensor of [Nav 11 anyway]

Changes from 4.30 to 4.40:

Problems Corrected:

1) Improved route transfers from MapSource with multiple via points.

Features Added:

1) Added ability to disable remote control input.

2) Added support for Portuguese and Canadian French audio languages.
To obtain these voice languages, you will need to download and install
the latest audio database after this software update is complete.

------------------------------------------------------------

Changes from 4.20 to 4.30:

Problems Corrected:

1) Changing a saved route's name could cause a reboot.
2) Find Exit feature did not show the complete list of services for a given
exit.
3) In some rare situations, extra text was shown after the end of textual turn
instructions.
4) Searching for an intersection of two identically named streets always
returned "None Found".
5) Corrected Italian translation of "Public Sport Airport".
6) Odometer value displayed an incorrect value when configured to small narrow
tabs if the odometer value exceeded 999.
7) The small address overlay tab didn't wrap to two lines.
