Electrical fire on Guy Fawkes night

I just had an alarm fitted (datatool system 3) to my '05 1150ADV.
After getting it home and testing out how to operate it, finding out how loud it was etc I was just about to put the bike in the garage the next thing smoke flames sparks all coming from left side of the engine just behind the where the positive charging post is located.
A frantic few earspitting minutes later I had the battery disconnected and the fire extinguished. I phoned the dealer who assured me that it was nothing to do with the new alarm that has been fitted but it was the coil overheating and starting a fire in the connecting wiring, and that this has happened before.
Anyone else had this happen?

Seems rather a big "coincidence". I'm not a big believer in them :(
