OK, this might get a bit technical.....
You'll need
a) a computer
b) broadband access to the internet (DSL)
c) Google Earth
d) an unzip program
1. Download the attached zipped file
2. unzip the file (this becomes a Google Earth .kmz file)
3. Double click on this file. That will load Google Earth (GE)
4. Wait for GE to put the earth in focus
5. Scroll to the bottom of the PLACES pane (left) to Temporary Placces
6. Expand "Lisbon Traffic Cams"
7. Expand the nexy "Lisbon Traffic Cams"
8. You've got two folder now, "CAMS SPOTS" and "PICTURES"
9. Expand the folder "Pictures"
10. Double click on the text of any of the cam locations
11. GE will "fly" there.
12. Once stabelized, click on the check box to the left of the name
13. The traffic cam will load a real time image of the traffic there. The image is updated every 60 seconds.
14. The "Cam Spots" just shows where all the cameras are.
So, this way you can more or less see the Dakar vehicles ride around Lisbon. It's a question of luck to see them, but what will happen in the 2-3 days before the departure, the cars, bikes and trucks will be circulating through Lisbon, all over the place. You should be able to capture some of these.
Note to Paul. Might be a good idea to allow uploads of .kml and .kmz files. These are the Google Earth files. I'd say more and more people will start bookmarking locations in GE and sharing them here.
