TomTom announces new Go series
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/03/01/tomtom_go_line_updated/

Dutch satellite navigation specialist TomTom today said it will ship an updated TomTom Go range of in-car route-planning devices on 1 April. No fooling, the new 510, 710 and 910 models will feature...

Biggest improvement is probably the PC software that allows you to tinker with your Go...

... not even a single word mentioned about the TomTom Rider :nenau

Pile'o'shite, getta Garmin! :thumb
You are probably right - for the time being that is!

On the TT website one can read: The new GO range comes with the free software application TomTom HOME. Serving as a portal it enables users to easily manage, download and store content from their computer

This doesn't mean that one can create routes on the PC which is the key issue. But it is an indication that TomTom is on the right track. Around 2008-2009 one can expect TomTom to have something comparable with Garmin MapSource.

So for the time being - buy Garmin! :eek

Garmin shareholders?

okay, what's the comparable cost of Garmin like for like i.e. headset, glove sensitive screen etc? If it's the same as the TomTom, fair enough: if it costs a good deal more, then some of us may have to consider the depth of our wallet

There's more than one way to get to Timbuctou and it doesn't always have to involve electronics

timbuctou - try different spellings

mauretania? somewhere in the sahara

On this Tom Tom V Garmin issue - don't underestimate the performance of the SiRF III receiver in the Tom Tom. You'll hardly ever loose reception with this. I have an external aerial on my 2610 and it's nowhere near as good as the Tom Tom 5 I use in my car with the Tom Tom Bluetooth receiver and PDA.
At the moment I would go down the TT Rider route for performance - this will remain the better unit until Garmin use the SiRF chipset in the 2720.
I'm also a bit miffed that I still won't be able to use the UK Postcode search on my 2160 with V8 maps. :(

PCs and Rider

There is a way of route planning on a PC with a Rider. Download a free program called POIconverter. http://rjdavies.users.btopenworld.com/html/poiconverter.html

Plan your route on Autoroute and save the route. Now load the route into POIconverter and save it out as a Rider Itinerary. Now just load the Itinerary into the Rider.

Sounds inolved but its a `no-brainer'.

Do you know how it could be done using a Mac?

What version of autoroute are you using with this? Just been messing around and can't seem to get POIconverter to open one of my .axe files - gives me an error about a missing .gpx file :( Be great to get this working :)

The Garmin Nuvi uses the SiRF chip set. No indication of whether there is any plan to install the chipset into the 2720 etc.
