Well I'm to pick my new Gs up on Saturday.

I've been a CN customer for 4 years and have 4 YNCB
Today I phoned up carol nash...thought simple phone call change of details..my policy runs until december no problem..WRONG...

Sorry we can't insure THAT bike unless theres an alarm fitted which we do and charge £300+....
No way says I, ...OK says CN, but you'll have to cancel your policy and it'll cost u a years NCB..Thank u for being a Loyal customer.
So I'm gonna email them to vent my feelings.

So beware of Carol Nash if your changing your bike.

BTW anyone know of any decent policies out there?

Thought about trying through BMW? Most of us seem very happy with their policies. Who's your dealer? Give 'em a ring in the morning - you may be in for a surprise.

I gave CN a ring last year when renewing - not impressed at all!

Also, if the 'bike is new - ask about 'Shortfall Insurance' - costs about £200 and covers the bike for 3yrs and returns ALL your dosh if it gets stolen or written off - worked a treat for me in 2000.

Had the same experience with Carol Nash
Just renewed R1150R Insurance, Tried Several Companies and Found Direct Choice cheapest. Original on line quote was £160, phoned and they reduced it to £122.01 Fully Comprehensive through Equity Red Star. No security apart from Oxford 385 U lock.
Direct Phone no. to Motorcycle Section 01638 672967

im with carol nash .just bought a new gs they just transfered cover and gave me a rebate.dint fit an alarm only 20 quid differance they said no prob

Hi, new to group but ive just purchased a GS and I didnt have problems changing my insurance with CN in fact got better rate.

<:3)~~~

I have to join in with positive stories about Carole Nash. Their rates are very reasonable and I liked their customer service. When I renew in October though I'll definitely give BMW a chance to quote as I'll be 40 and so well inside the pipe & slippers zone for lower insurance.

I live in a low risk area which is probably why I am able to get cover to leave the bike overnight on the drive - even though it is always locked up in the garage. That way if the bike is ever stolen off the drive I am covered - something that wouldn't pay out on some policies if your bike was stolen off your drive even during the day time.

I'm insured through Carole Nash. The salesman tried very hard to sell me an Alarm but I refused to buy one. But it certainly wasn't a condition of the insurance (This would be around February this year). In fact the salesman eventually apologised for trying so hard to sell me an alarm when I pointed out his selling technique might even put people off.

As an add on to my existing policy for an Aprilia RSV the GS was around £90 (Had I gone for the alarm this would have reduced to £24).

Carol Nash sorted.

Well I phoned CN again this morning and tried a different tack.

Cancelled my exsisting policy and took out a new one.
So 227 for the year included usual European stuff and legal aid plus I got£81 rebate from my old policy..so £164 fir the year.
No mention of an alarm
So must ave bin the person selling me the policy getting commision for selling alarms.
Only downside,...lost 6months NCB, but I can live wid that:p

Have only ever contacted CN once... and I'll never do it again. It wasn't in relation to a GS but a H-D... the person on the phone was so rude and snotty, as to make me feel sorry I ever spoke to them in the first place. They had a list of conditions as long as your arm that I had to comply with. Each time I said, "yes", you could hear the pause as they tried to think of some other reason not to quote me.

It had to be in a locked garage "Yes"
Have an alarm fitted "yes"
...oh, and an immobilisoer as well? "yes"
Is the vehicle locked itself? "yes"
...<pause> Anyone else have access to the garage? "Yes, the people living with me"
...<pause>... "not ideal is it".... "I beg your pardon?
...<pause>... "not the ideal situation to let other people access to your vehicle"..... <me> "what has that to do with it?"
...<pause>... "nevermind"

"Right, value of vehicle?".... that's when the fun started.

Turns out they had a problem with my bike costing more than IRL£10,000... and the access thing was an issue as well.

I was never so disappointed I'd dialled a few digits to be spoken to in that manner. You'd swear I was asking for them to give me a present instead of supply a premium at rates they stipulate.

On the fair side, I did call again a year later (in case it was one miserable SOB... to be told, sorry, we're not taking on any new policies at the moment.

Their number has been scribbled out of the phone book at work!

I’m currently with Motorcycle direct. My insurance on my F650 is going to cost me £185 TPFT to renew at the end of June. I recently got a Yamaha FJ1200, I had to pay another £30 for the last 2 months on my old policy. Motorcycle direct's renewal on the FJ1200 only will be £260 TPFT. A quick call to CN gave me a quote of £175 TPFT on the FJ only & £195 TPFT on both the FJ1200 & the F650. Full comp on both bikes £320 with CN, I haven’t asked Motorcycle direct about full comp yet but I think it will be a lot more than CN’s quote.
I’ve heard a lot about BMW insurance being good & above all cheap, does any one know if they will cover the FJ1200 as well as the F650 on the same policy.
Or does anyone have a phone number so I can give them a ring.

I'm pretty sure you'll find BMW Insurance will only cover BMW bikes (including second bikes). The scheme is brokered by approved BMW dealers, so give your local one a ring.

Mike:)

I was insured through Bennets kept my insurance going after handing in my Triumph to get another years no claims, without bike for 6weeks while waiting for GS when bike come in rang Bennets and was told the company who i was insured with didnt list the GS so i would have to cancel policy and take out new one losing this years no claims. So sitched over to BMW ins

I was only paying £140 TPFT on an Aprilia Pegaso as a newly qualified rider. That sounds a bit steep. Have you spoken to MCE? They claim to be TPFT specialists. www.insuremce.com 0870 9090966. Their fully comp quote was not competitive though which is why I changed on renewal to Carole Nash. In October I'll be 40 and have 2 full years no claims so I'm hoping to change to BMW Insurance if the price is right.

Firstly, having met Carole Nash, I would be very worried if she tried to screw me.

Allegedly, Viz used her as a role model for one of the Fat Slags.

However, her company has insured my bikes for the last 4 years.

Other companies have come close. However, once factoring in the Euro breakdown cover and £1000 cover for leathers & helmet, the Nash quote has won.

I've not had a sales droid try to sell me an alarm. However, I have not phoned the quoteline for a while. I always go for customer services and tell porkies about how much lower competitors are quoting. Usually saves a few quid.

If anyone does get a pushy droid insisting on an alarm then I suggest you take as much of their time as possible, interrupting the sales pitch frequently, before teling them what a complete ar.se they are. Then phone back on the customer service line, make a complaint and haggle for a discount.

Sorry to contradict you Mike.....but I insured my GS through BMW and they put my Suzuki DRZ on for an extra £30 TPFT.

Ring-ring.. Hello Carrol Nash..
Age: 29
Accidents, convictions: Nope
No claims: 1 year. (won't accept no claims outside of UK or Ireland).
Where live: Dublin (I hear a gulp!)
Bike: 1150GS
Alarm, Immobiliser: yes
Value: 11,000 Euros (was told price doesn't affect premium)
Fully comp: Yes

The First word he said was THREE
Then THOUSAND..

When I picked up the phone after d the guy was quite understanding and even told me to try Hibernain as they may not be competitive for this type of bike..

For all of you about to grab your calculator... 3000+ Euros is well over GB£2000..
Has anyone got a worse quote than that?

But I must say that they are very polite and even posted me out the quote..

Funny thing is that the same guy quoted me about £350 fully comp on a 5.7liter ford Mustang (with Fred Flintstone brakes)..

3000 Euros??????

...better consider Your bike already half-stolen...

Bought a GS1150 2 months ago and got a good deal through my main dealer (Vines) with BMW Insurance.
This is in spite of being a London based photographer (insurance companies automatically think I'm a mad papparazzi who spends all day chasing princesses through road tunnels...) without a garage.
They didn't ask about alarms...I've just bought Xena chain with disc lock that has an alarm built into it.

I spoke to Carol Nash today for a quote and when they worked it out they give the same discount for the fitting of a datatag as a they do for a Cat 3 alarm ??.
Seeing as the datatag is only £50 and it reduced the premium by £28 then I might as well fit it. I was glad that they didn't insist on the fitting of an alarm though as they are a pain in the ass and only stop the most dumb of thieves.
Also CN were cheaper to insure all three bike, R1150GS, XR400 and Aprilia RS250 than BMW wanted to insure just the GS.

Just renewed insurance.

Carole Nash: £345.89

BMW £202

both fully comp.

let's see, which one should I go for ?

Tough one.

Incidently - Carole Nash offer to fit alarms - I know someone on this board has had a bad experience with this, so BEWARE.

They can make a bit of a mess.

cheers
