Well today set off and noticed that the oil warning light had stayed on!
Plenty of oil in. Fortunately only gone about 100 yards, so looks like the bike is going to be recovered yet again. So far the BMW experence has not bin gud. (2,400 miles)
BTW anyone know where the sensor switch is located??

The oil pressure switch is situated on the left hand side of the crankcase just above and slightly further back from the oil sight glass. It is possible that the wire has come off and shorted against a metal object. this will keep the light on. You better hope its something simple like that!!

And the moral of the story is?

Dont wash your bike wid a pressure washer!
Nuff sed. :blush

Happened to me after topping up the oil and riding away immediately

I stopped, released the filler cap and all was humky dory again.

It was winter and the oil was stored in a very cold shed. I'm guessing that some sort of air lock developed.

The oil lamp will come on only if the PRESSURE is low. Is not an indication on the ammount of oil in the engine. Obviously, if there no oil or very, but very little oil, the pressure will drop.
Seems more likely a switch failure, but is worth checking oil pressure as well.
