About six days ago I turned on my Quest 1, it flashed on for a few seconds
and then the screen went blank, no luck when I tried recharging it either.
I brought it back to the shop where I bought it, who in turn sent it back to
Garmin. A brand new one arrived today which I'll collect tomorrow, this kind
of service I'd already heard about and is brilliant, but, the unit was only 7
months
old and I think there is only a years warrenty on them. Whats the story if it
packs in again in another 6 or 7 months ?

Again, fair play to them for dealing so promptly, just wondering if I should get
a GPS that might have a better reputation for reliability (if there is one).:nenau

The new one (going by my experience anyway) will be under warranty for a year as well......

Garmin don't have a bad reputation for reliability...biggest probs are misting under the screen and a few aerials going tits up on the Quest, but they do have the best reputation for customer service that there is (once you've got hold of them)

Given the fact that they've changed it without quibble for a brand new unit, and turned it round in under a week, TBH I'm a bit surprised you're looking elsewhere :nenau

PS No connection with them, just a happy customer....YMMV

Wrong end of the stick,

Given the fact that they've changed it without quibble for a brand new unit, and turned it round in under a week, TBH I'm a bit surprised you're looking elsewhere :nenau
No Fanum, I agree with you about how good Garmin were (as I said twice) and I
don't intend going to a different company, just wondering was there a different
model that has a reputation for not packing in. They are a brilliant product
but if they have a short life-span I'd like to change before hand.
But as you said if the warrenty extends for another year, I couldn't ask for more.
I was concerned that if the same happened again in a few months I'd have nowt.

Thanks for the good news. :beerjug:

Fair play to Garmin.

Picked up my shiny new Quest Delux today, delighted. I spoke to the shop's
resident expert about the Quest failing so suddenly, she said it was the
second Quest returned since they came available, which is very good news.
I wont be bothering with those new fangled Zumos now, too bulky anyway.:augie

Now to see if I'm getting a free CN Ver9 upgrade.:D
