Hi, I've just bought Johnnyboxers's 1100GS which I'm generally delighted with, however I'm not too sure if I have a problem or not! When the engine is fully warmed up and when using a very slight (only just open) throttle, the bike does not like it at all and feels very rough. When It's sitting on the stand I can't replicate this problem, it's almost like a mis-fire....but not quit. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Other than the above it's the first GS I've owned and I love it!!
Jeff.

I can't put my finger on it either...............but after Rainbow serviced it last week it is a lot better

It's had new Autolite plugs
TPS has been checked
Throttle bodies have been synch'd
Rocker end float done
Throttle cables adjusted and synch'd
All checked on the BMW GT-1 computer and everything is tickety-boo

Only thing are coils perhaps..............but it doesn't show any obvious faults

Ask Steptoe??

I find when my bike is warmed up and idling (around 900rpm) at traffic lights, if I give it slight throttle, maybe 100 revs, the engine will stumble and almost cut out. It has actually cut out a few times as I'm about to take off. I'm just going to increase the idle a bit and synchronise the throttles to see if it helps.

1100 are a tad fluttery on low revs when in too higher gear, i bet you need to move down one.

also im betting your new to bms's:nenau

surge!!

Thanks for the thoughts, I'm new to GS's but I've ridden 1000s of miles on an old R100RS, as well as a host of weird and wonderfull stuff over the years. I don't think down changing would help, the engine isn't labouring it just doesn't like small throttle openings?? Thanks for the feedback though.

I set up the throttle bodies on mine and set the co pot to 1.5%. Engine wasn't happy and I ended up richening it by 1 1/2 turns (ccw). Try different fuels as well.

Mine will now pull away at about 1400rpm quite happily :)

You may need the TPS re-setting at something different to the BMW GT-1 recomended setting. The GT-1 sets the TPS voltage lower than the optimum running voltage.

So whaddya find works best?

make shore that the vacum bungs are no cracked under the throttle bodies and make shore all the clips are tight as well on the throttle bodies that done the trick for me:bounce1:thumb2

Once again thanks for the feedback, I think I'll find a local expert to have a look, it sounds a bit above my capabilities.

Search Mike Kendrick from Sunderland, Jeff............or speak to Steve @ Rainbow on 01709 835917 - they had it 2 weeks ago and I thought it was now fine................but we're all different

Maybe I'm being a bit fussy, but it's definately a bit wooly on low throttle openings, thanks for the referall, I'll look him up.

No, Jeff........... you want it to be as good as it can be and that's perfectly natural.............if I can help, let me know

I rode my R11RT on Sat and the 90hp RT/RS motor is definitely smoother than the the 80hp GS/R motor............must be the fuelling and cams etc

I think I cured my problem last night and it cost under a tenner. I had been using a carbtune and then a twinmax to balance my throttles but I could never get it right. So last week I made a DIY manometer with some facia board out of B&Q, aquarium air tubing (4mm inner diameter) and 2 stroke oil. I got around to testing it yesterday and the twinmax balance setting was way out. Took a while to get it right (using the DIY manometer) as I was turning the rhs BBS in 5 or 10 degree increments but got there in the end.

This morning no stumble while the bike is on fast idle as it was previously and no stumble when I give the bike very slight throttle (approx 80-120 revs) when sitting at lights. I also gave the BBS a good clean with carb cleaner - it was filthy.

Something along these lines - http://www.obairlann.net/reaper/motorcycle/manometer.html but I used 2 stroke oil instead of water. I put one end of the tube in the bottle of oil and sucked on the other to get the oil into the tubing. Then raised the ends of the tubing up and tied them to the roof of the shed. Let gravity do the rest of the work and a few days later the oil had settled.
