Hello,

I am finally getting round to the idea of a tank-bag (large) for my 08 Adventure... I can't find any advice on 'search'...

Can anybody simply link me up and has anybody got any honest opions on the best waterproof, large capacity, quality tank bag without spending excessively? (around the £150 mark)

Let me know your thoughts...:thumb2

Haven't got / can't find a close up pic but the BMW large tankbag is top notch for the following reasons; easy to take on/off, it's waterproof (it's been used in some serious downpours), although big it doesn't get in the way, it cures buffeting (true), it doesn't move when fitted to the bike, it's very durable - mine's done circa 70,000 miles on my two 1200's and I've crashed at 60mph, it remained attached to the bike, was marked but is still sound.

Top bit of kit well designed and excellent value for money at around £150.

I'll add to what will become a list of tankbags.

TT's small and large versions.

Why? Suitable size. Good map carrier. The internal credit card pouch is great. Cords to hold gloves are a good idea. Easy to take on and off. Good market for re-sale as it's a popular bag.

I have used both of mine for thousands of miles. One failed zip, which I had replaced for a few quid.

Buy with confidence.

That looks nice... how much was it? - what make is it? - where do people buy them?

Have one on my 08 GSA, its a SW Motech bag available from Chainspeed.

Bought the bag on Fleabay but the mouinting from Chainspeed.

Been using it a couple of months now and very impressed.

Thanks guys...

Does anybody know if they are compatible with the handlebar brace? I retro fitted a cross brace on my 08 gsa... I dont really want to have to take it off

i have the big bmw bag and an 07 GSA with brace. yes, the brace does touch the bag sometimes, but it never causes any problem.

carries a lot of stuff and never leaks.

i actually prefer the later, smaller bag as you get more room to move around on the bike, but if you need to carry lots lots of stuff, the big bag is a good choice IMO.

ps. usually available second hand for a lot less than £140.

pps. mine's not for sale :D

I have an 07 medium BMW bag on an 09 GSA. The 07 tab that attaches to the tank pulls the bag a little too far back so you have to get a new one for the 09. The only problem is that BMW no longer do the dual lock type velcro. You have to get it from the web (ebay £3).

Edit: I'll try to add a pic later.

I'd second the TT tankbags. If rlbgs is selling his I'd snap his arm off. All you'll need is a bit of velcro from B&Q... :thumb

Bagster

I used to use the BMW bag on my old GS but found it hard to get the front on around the pipes for ESA. It was a good waterproof bag but a bit of a sod to remove/hinge up when filling the tank.

For the GSA a bought a expandable Bagster with the tank cover. The bag has a great capacity and has zip expansion plus a couple of side pockets. The quality is very good and the vinyl surface is a lot easier to clean than the fabric of most bags. It fits on the tank cover with a couple of D rings at the front that clip on to closable hooks on the cover and spring "tongues" that clip into steel loops at the back. Very easy to remove or hinge when filling. The tank cover looks smart and protects the bike when the bag is not in use. The bag also holds its shape well (unlike the BMW bag which collapses when empty).

Downsides. It is not 100% waterproof but comes with a clear rain cover. Personally I find the rain cover a nuisance so just place any vulnerable items in plastic bags. It's a bit pricey. Costs vary depending on 1 or 2 colour covers and size of bag. My combination was about £190 for cover and bag.

The Bagster has been used for trips to Romania (as pic) and Netherlands and does the job well.
