My 46 litre Givi Trekker arrived from Italy today and it's a lovely piece of kit and looks like it'll match the BMW Vario panniers nicely. I'll take some snaps this weekend

Price ?

The Givi Trecker top box looks really good, the vario top box is a little on the small side for my daily commute. What price are they going for ?

I bought it from an Italian dealers called Omnia Racing.

They had it up for 188 Euros or best offer and they accepted my offer of 170 Euros. Postage was 24 Euros, so the total cost was £170.36, which is about £50-60 cheaper than I've seen them advertised in the UK :)

It's a lot bigger than the Vario topbox, although I may have gone for the 36l Trekker for commuting as the 46l does look a bit on the big side.

Look good to me and a fair price. Only thing I would say though is that the BM Varios can be flogged on ebay all day long for not a lot less than one paid for them in the event you no longer want them.

One of the many great things about the Varios is the lack of bracketry left exposed when the panniers are removed :thumb2

True, which is why I bought them. I already had a Givi topbox though, so it was much cheaper at the time to just buy a Givi rack. The Vario topbox is a bit small though, so the Trekker suits my needs better for two-up touring :)

I loved the Vario Paniers - they are a work of genius - until you crash!

The panniers hardly had a mark on them (they stood up to the surface gravel treatment but the weight of the bike just snapped off the two hooks (male parts on the case) and snapped like a carrot the locking bolt that is on the bike side.

The repair was relitively cost efective
New pannier £185.00 (replaced my own locks however had to do some filing as the lock seat s have changed!)
New locking bolt - which was massively overprced but is a specialist part.

If someone made a similar alu case that fitted in a similar manner to the vario cases then all that would be required would be make to make the locking bolt a shearbolt and carry a few spares for when the unfortunate incident happens again....

help with omnia website

Hi Sven

Where did you find them on the Omnia site, can't see a page for luggage anywhere? Can you post a link? I'm after these too to replace my Givi E41s, they're great but the assymetry annoys me.

When the luggage is off I reckon the racks act as quasi safety bars, as witnessed when my ex-wife reversed into the bike and knocked it over - not a mark at the back end!
