Having ridden my GS in the dark for the first time I looked in the handbook for how to adjust the main beam as currently it doesn't really make much difference. But I can't see anything like a conventional beam adjuster.

Is there a "hidden" adjustment ? Or is this why after-market HIDs are so popular ?

It is adjustable....but.

Headlamp as a whole is adjustable but it is not possible to adjust just the high beam.

Adjuster is a small knob :augie at the back in the centre with a lever round it.

The lever is a 'quick' load adjuster. In the horizontal it is normal and pushed down by 90 deg its dropped for heavy loads.... That bit is in the manual.

Quick and easy install of a HID will solve it though.

Check out Les Wassall of this very site www.hid50.com

I've just re-read the manual, and I think mis-read it last time as I somehow came to the conclusion that the adjuster was for changing the beam for driving on the other side of the road :blast

That's the bit I mis-read the first time! But is it just a 2 position adjustment (Up and Down) or is it continuously variable ?

Doesn't that lever have a turn knob in the middle of it?

EDIT: In fact I knew I had it somewhere - check out this picture whcih shows a left-right and up-down adjuster
Note: I think the left right is more to do with the angle against the center line of the bike and not specifically for riding on other sides of the road.

yes.........

the knob in the middle of the load lever is a simple screw to raise or lower the headlamp as a unit. NOT just the high beam. The load lever is a quick means of lowering the beam when heavy loads are carried,

Thanks guys. Was I being particularly blind or is this adjusting knob really not shown in the handbook ? :blast

The manual does not really describe the adjuster very well at all (which might be a translation from German issue) and certainly the picture in the manual does not really show that the lever surrounds a knob.

Also I don't think the second (left-right) adjuster is mentioned at all - guess it comes under the recommendation for dealer to adjust - hence they don't want you to touch it so don't tell you about it.

Knob located and twiddled :) I'll have to wait until I ride it home one evening to see if I've turned it too much or not enough. Looking at the forecast that may well be tomorrow :thumb2

It is one of the easiest adjustments to reach I have ever seen. I've had bikes where you either had to remove the whole fairing or dislocate your wrist to get to their knob

So it is ironic that it isn't actually mentioned in the manual (I just checked again :augie )

Thanks for all your the help ( and patience with a GS noob ;) )

Indeed it was tomorrow (today) :) Just needed a few more turns in the car park before setting off home and it's now OK.

Which direction do you turn the knob to raise the beam, clockwise or anticlockwise?

Just keep turning it until the cars flash you. Then keep turning and install more HIDs. :D. If they keep flashing you install more HIDs. It's war.:mcgun
