quest lead short

bought a second hand power cradle for my quest,the problem is the lead is a short one will not reach the plug on the side of the bike,will it be ok to take off the adaptor but extra lead on, was going to thread the lead through bike so it is permanently fitted in the accessory plug,i dont mind leaving the cradle on bike permanently.or should i just get a accessory plug fitted to dash !thanks all

.....extend the wiring from the mount by soldering and insulating properly - or - have a socket fitted at the beak if you don't know what you're doing.

Hard Wire It??

My Quest supply cable is hard-wired into the supply for the brake light switch, so if the ignition is on, power is available at the Quest cradle, - saves having plugs dangling about etc?? - the standard Quest cable reaches this connection point no bother. If yours has been shortened, then, as somebody said, just extend it properly - it's only a +ve and -ve 12v supply?

Anyone know where and how to find connection point to connect a quest. Don't get me wrong, I can find the wire ok, just don't know the method of connection. I don't want to use a scotchlok or cut the wire. Do you splice and solder or what?

Not sure what you've got exactly, but I found a neat solution for this having hunted around myself.

I've got a 1200GSA with a option access socket at the front, you can buy the correct plug and adapter direct from BMW for around £50, unfortunately Tyco who make the part are not allowed to sell direct to the public, this is a BMW only part - if anyone can get hold of it though the part number is P/No.2-967082-3.

Anyway, the simple solution is to tin the wires of the Garmin quest motorcycle mount and insert them directly into the accessory mount ports 1 and 3 (1 Brown - neutral, 3 Red/White live powered on ignition). Its a bit cheap, but I've sealed mine by gluing the wires in through the top of the connector cover that you would remove and disgard if you bought BMW own part.

All I need to do now is work out where to connect the intercom and which intercom to ultimately go for...
