Happy days!

Off at the end of June for nine days away on a nice triangular route taking in the eastern side / middle of France.

Day one

London to Calais – 70 miles

Calais to Cote d’Or (Piney) – 278 miles

Day two

Piney to Annnecy, by the big lake - 241 miles

Day three

Annecy to Provence, Bedoin - 211 miles

Days four and five

Stay in Bedoin

Take in Mont Ventoux in a ride out from Bedoin - 85 miles

Day six

Bedoin across to Mende - 108 miles

Day seven

Stay in Mende

Take in the Millau Bridge and Gorges du Tarn in a ride out from Mende - 158 miles

Day eight

Mende up to Semur – 265 miles

Day nine

Semur back to Calais – 208 miles

Calais back home – 70 miles

1,694 miles - Except for the run to Dover and then for the 100 miles from Calais, we will be avoiding all motorways. Everything is on national (N) or lesser (D) roads.

I've got an awesome rideout route for the area around Mende-Millau if you want it.
It's 280 miles but so good you'll never notice the miles fly by..:)

That would be very kind of you.

I doubt we will have time to do it this trip but always handy for the future. It's a top area of France, for sure. But there again, where isn't?

I will do you a swap for our routes for all of the above if you like.

Cheers,

Richard

Top trip Nasher - I am joining you for lunch with Justy - have you done the Le Mans memory stick yet? If so, bring it with you please!

a simple update.

Just got back from France / Spain.

Took the GPS and a new Michelin Map for the area. However whilst the map contained many of the new roads, the French seem to be frantically renumbering the roads as fast as Michelin can print the maps. So if you're navigating you may find the road numbers don't necessarily tie in.

It all adds to the enjoyment and the adventure.

Cheers

Hi Wapping. There's 4 of us going down to that neck of the woods in the first week of July too. We'll be based in Aurillac. Arriving on Sunday 1/7 and departing on Friday 6/7. If you're in the area, we'll be in the Grand Hotel du Bordeaux! :thumb

Coming back to UK on Sunday 1st. Ships that pass....etc. etc.

Hi Spikehammer, Do you have this route as a garmin file for a 2610 that you can post here on the site? :thumb

I've plotted it on Mapsource, so yes...I think..:)

Hmmm...just tried it and it's 30Kb too big. There must be a way round this...anyone?

Ditch the sat nav and use a map.
So much more fun.....................er (Never used it once in the first 1900 miles)perhaps funs not the right word.

Having said that we did take one with us and used it to find the Ibis hotel on the right of the river in Rouen last week and also to get back out of the place.

I spent £40 squid on maps and trawled over them for hours plotting all the best routes into Mapsource! The more twisty the better!

Once we're in Aurillac, the longest time in the saddle will be just under 6 hours (to Gorge du Tarn, 248 miles). With a 9am departure it should just about be achievable! Loverly jubbly! :thumb

E-mail sent. I've actually ridden the route a few times and it brilliant. The Les Vans section is where I ended up in someones front garden 2 years ago...!!!!

I can see ventoux from my town. its 40 kilometres to the top from here (Buis les Baronnies). Eat in Sault, small restaurant in the old square always gives a free beer to les motards. Excellent lunch (three course) for about 20 Euros per head. Sault is lavender country and during your stay all will be in bloom as you head down from the summit through pine forest and then onto the plain. Excellent run did it 10 days ago for a quick morning out. Enjoy!!

Nice hotel in Piney (just make sure you get a room over the rear courtyard, NOT the main road )
