Planning a trip to Poland Krakow in August/Sept.
Does anyone have any advice en route, accommodation, where to go and what to do. I'm travelling with my wife and 2 friends on their Triumph - trying to convert them. Any hints or tips will be much appreciated. Ta.:

Thanks for that information Gunter I will look into those links you suggested. I will definately give the Wodka a try.:beerjug:

If you want to break the journey there try this place....

The guy who owns it is an English biker. The roads around the Harz are brilliant for playing on and are very suitable for the GS :clap

Thanks for all the info. Trip coming together with the help of these links. Roll on August.:beerjug:

Wawel Castle is a great out spent looking at Polish history and the burying place of its heroes. Also, one of the worlds 'power places' is reputed to be in the Wawel.

Their 'milk bars' are the equivalent of our greasy spoons, good cheap food for the masses.

Krakow is a lovely city.

Krakow must be one of the most charming cities I've ever visited, and escaped virtually unscathed from World War II. I didn't get to spend as long as I wanted to, but you have to go to the Rynek Glowny (a massive square) but don't look at the women, they will make you go blind. :D

The Wielitchka Salt Mines (N49 59.193 E20 03.086) are well worth a visit. My camera battery went flat as soon as I arrived, so I'm kicking myself that I didn't even get 1 photo of the place. :blast Wear comfortable shoes, as you will walk miles (and descend the biggest staircase you will see in your life - it takes 20 mins easily and no exaggeration. Luckily, there's a lift back up.

As mentioned Auschwitz (Oswiecim on your Polish map) is about an hours ride West of Krakow and should be visited at least once in your life. You'll probably never be closer to it. Auschwitz main camp was a Polish Army barracks before the Germans invaded, so the buildings were built to last.

Warsaw is a days drive North of Krakow, but I found it far more charming than I had been led to believe. Even Polish people warned me that it was "a dump" but it certainly wasn't my impression of it. :eek I just wish I could have stayed there a day or two.

Look for Walcz on the map. Might fit your itinerary.

We stayed here in may last year.

One of the nicest hotels I have stayed in whilst biking. Fantastic value, extremely high standards and cheap bar PLUS secure parking. Very highly recommended :thumb

Note to the ModeratorsAny chance we can put all the travel advice in sub forums by either countriy or regions scuh as Southern Europe, The Alps, The Pyrenees, Eastern Europe, Northern Europe Russia etc... There are sub forums already but not in the accomodation section.

For people planning a trip later in the year it would be great to have these all files together.:thumb2

Just a thought:rob
