Best free anti virus software

Could peeps please reccomnd the best free downloadable anti virus software to go onto my daughters 'just cleaned' laptop (PC)

AVG for me as well, also voted the best free software on the internet by the Gadget Show:thumb2

And the upgrade is even better

There again if your a masochist and like to suffer endless delays get Norton
 
Blimey, level pegging between AVG and Avast.............

I'll let my daughter decide based on which is the better name ;)

I used AVG for years until there was a conflict. It's solved now, but I haven't tried it again.

In the meantime, I used Avast on our laptops, (Very Good!)

And on our new PC, I installed Avira, again it seems Very Good.

As a matter of interest, I have started using Comodo firewall and that's pretty good too!

no infections since I switched from avg (non with either to be fair) and no conflicts at all (more than could be said with avg) easier to use too:thumb
 
Why would anyone buy McAffee, Norton etc ?

If free products like AVG or AVAST are so good why would anyone buy McAffee, Norton etc ?

What do the purchased products offer over and above the free ones ?

Just bought McAfee and wondering if I wasted my money.
