Earlier in the year I decided I ought to upgrade my maps to the last available version for the Quest.

I have had the dvd Garmin sent me for a long time but as I wasn't really going anywhere I was too bloody tight to pay the upgrade.

"W*nker" you might say.

I asked garmin for the unlock codes explaining I had now amassed three of their dvd's, all sent by them but they have refused as they no longer support the older mapping. They helpfully suggested I could buy a new Zumo and sent me their web links.

Any idea if unlock codes can be obtained through another source. Googling seems to get loads of hits but all for what seem to be spammers that use the tags to get you into crap sites...

Legitimately, no, Garmin won't sell you a suitable unlock code.

I maybe speaking out of line here but if I still had my Quest I'd be searching Google, using the term 'jetmouse', on the grounds that if they don't want to sell you an unlock code are they really expecting you to be forced to buy a new, and expensive, model :nenau I don't really condone software piracy but in this case it's justified IMHO. You'll need to be running an older version of Mapsource.

I assume that you are aware that support for the non NT mapping that the Quest uses was terminated for 2010. The non NT version of 2009 City Navigator is the end of the line.

Like you I was pretty un-impressed when Garmin decided not to sell me maps that worked on my unit and I actually already had!

There is a programme that 'breaks' Garmin lock codes - Garmin keygen.
You install the maps and then run the programme - or so I've heard.
Obviously I couldn't recommend that you download such a programme and use it.
I'd guess you will need to use bittoreent or something - if you can't find the programme, I couldn't possibly send you a copy. :augie

Thanks chaps. I was amazed that Garmin won't sell an unlock code for what might turn out to be £75 of pure profit. Especially as I told them that forking out £300 for a Zumo was as likely as .... well anytihng involving Cheryl Cole and a bucket of custard.

I'll maybe google some more.
