Oops, sorry folks, linky now open, show's the exact location of the campsite. Just on the entrance there's a sign too. Approximately 300m east from the bridge in Brendon.

Passing Phase, you're welcome. This will be a relaxed weekend where people can do as they please. The area has plenty of accommodation and the pub easily coped with us all the last time we were there. Eat, drink, ride, walk, relax, wander, chill, etc…

Possible bad news Richie:(

Just called in to the Staghunters Inn in Brendon which you stated in your first post will be the centre of the weekend.

New Landlord knows nothing about anyone coming that weekend. The Friday night is already fully booked and the Saturday only has a couple of rooms left. The restaurant is also fully booked and I doubt that there will be much room left in the bar.:(

He showed me all his bookings for Friday and Saturday night and I didn't recognise any as being Tossers from here, but I might be wrong as I'm not sure of everyone's real names, but the landlord thought that they were all regulars that he knew.

He was very friendly and helpful (and served excellent cider:beerjug:) but he was concerned that a large group might turn up and he wouldn't be able to cater for them properly.

Over to you Richie.

Re Camping. The newer site up the road (Riverside Camping) is about half a mile up the road and has electric hook up for wobbly boxes etc. You can only get to Brendon from the Simonsbath side. It is impossible the other way (from the north) as there is a very steep (25%) hill and a stupidly narrow old bridge that would never allow a fat Hymer across.

The off-road route is not looking too good either as many of the routes look restricted since we were last there. It might be a case of we get away with it once and apologise afterwards (my main approach to life in general) but most of the decent paths were bridal paths unfortunately.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but wanted to let you all know ASAP so that plans can be sorted.

I can't think that virtually any of what we rode in 2006 is now usable.

Cheers for popping by Sid. I don't think we're going to a large group, judging by the replies on here, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I did post this event nice and early, so that people could book themselves in. As they haven't, i guess they've missed the boat. Brendon is a super location and, given the facilities in the area, is very, very popular.
As for eating, people on ride-outs will be easily able to get a nice pub lunch. The Rockford Inn is just a short distance down the road, so you can book there for a meal and head back to Brendon for drinks in The Stag after.
Anyone staying at Millslade will be able to get an evening meal in addition to their B&B. I suggest that you do as we normally do, and that is to eat a main meal of the day at lunch time, as you should find it easier. There are also plenty of other eateries that people can travel to, in Lynton, Porlock and Minehead, and then head back to the Stag and the campsite for socialising.

I have deliberately tried to keep this weekend as simple as possible to avoid any hassles. I did liaise with the pub last year, and had a couple of email conversations, so i am a little surprised to hear they have no information on us being there. However, i only said we'd be holding an event in Brendon as i didn't want them to hold their rooms for potential bookings from UKGSer Tossers, only to find no-one committed to booking in, which looks like what has happened. I have provided the information, in good time, for people to book in, and it may well be that in not doing so, as previously mentioned, they've missed the boat.

Sandy and i are booked in at a B&B (we wanted to leave as many rooms available at the pub for everyone as possible), so we're going. As things look like they'll be busy for food in The Stag, we may book The Rockford for some grub if we go for walks, or we'll book lunch at The Blue Ball if we're riding. It's certainly not a major problem, as there are alternative options, you just need to get it booked in good time.

If peeps on here are not entirely happy with all this, then i suggest you cancel any room bookings ahead of any penalties for doing so. I don't want anyone to turn up and find that no-one else has turned up due to this new information. As Sid has kindly updated us on the latest news, it only takes a bit of preplanning to sort out. I only ask that anyone that does change their mind on attending, please let me know.

I can understand that Sid might not have picked my "name out in a crowd" but when I booked last week I did say quite clearly that I was coming over on the late ferry for the GSers motorcycle do and booked in for T/F/S, taking the last room in the house. Suspect there may be more than one person involved in running the place!
Its supposed to be a relaxed weekend, so this little hiccup makes no difference to me - like a bad penny i shall be there.

Well...

We're still coming :clap:clap

Bringing walking boots, tent and party attitude :thumb2:thumb2

Bah humbug Mr Horman, you do have PMs, don't you...?

Nice one Brian - and Cogs, thank you for confirming your attendance with walking boots, we'll be bringing ours and leading a beautiful walk along the coast and back down the Brendon valley, now we know we've got some people to lead.

Having said that, i will need ride leaders for some nice ride outs. Sid, i have a Fords route i can drop by and show you, so you may lead an adventurous road ride for any willing participants, and i believe Devon will be on hand to take a group out too.
There's always my suggested road ride route that someone with a GPS can lead, though i strongly suggest that if you do this route, aim for lunch at The Blue Ball at Triscombe and make sure you book a table! Food there is excellent.

For the campers, Porlock has the best choice of shops for supplies and eateries, with Minehead just a bit further along for a greater range of shops/restaurants, and a large Tesco's. If you fancy a curry, i know Humbug has a regular haunt he can recommend there.
To be honest, as long as there's good weather, you'll probably find you'll take your own booze and chill in the campsite for the evenings. Last time we went, we stopped for a pint in The Stag at the end of the walk, got back to the site, got the fire going and had a great time.:thumb2

Sid, How wide is that there bridge you're mentioning? I need 7 feet to get the trailer through.

(edit) Hmm, Just had a look on street view at the Hall Hill bridge that comes into the village from the north and the A39. Can't see any width restriction signs and there are wheel tracks showing from what is probably a twin rear wheel transit type vehicle. I don't think I'll have any problem getting the trailer through there. Your Hymer should fit too.

Hey Rich, We're definitely still coming. Sidecar and dog in tow. Camping space booked. Just got to sort where to have dinner. Are you booking making a definite booking at one of the pubs? Let us know and we'll join you if we may.

Bah humbug Mr Horman, you do have PMs, don't you...?

Un-fucking-believable!

I go out of my way to try to help with this event.

I point out the following facts:

1. The landloard of the pub "around which the event is centred" knows nothing at all about the event.
2. The pub is fully booked for rooms and restaurant.
3. Very few trails are available due to various route closures in recent events.
4. I could only just squeeze my Skoda over the narrow bridge. No way in a million years would any Hymer ever fit between the stone walls of that bridge.

I stupidly thought I was simply trying to help people.

But obviously, you lot all know better than me!

Why the fuck did I bother?:(

You know what? I don't give a microscopic shit!

Event firmly crossed off my list of events to go to. Sorry Richie, not your fault at all mate.

Get yourself up there with the mountain bike, a few pints and some good food with some lovely rides across the moors.

No worries Sid, i've learnt not to be too sensitive to peoples' comments on here. Everyone has their viewpoint and, sometimes, they can be perceived differently to what the author intended. My impression of Cog's comment was taken as a friendly leg pull, but you've seen it differently to me. Your comments were helpful and highlighted a lack of communication at the pub and issues with access. Humbug has a fairly large wobblybox and knows the area and access difficulties as well, so is also a good source for information on the best access route for Brendon. In no way should anyone in anything bigger than a car try to attempt to access Brendon from the East side. Access from the A39 (after you've passed through Lynton, if coming from Porlock) and along the East Lyn River is ok, but a bit of a way should you encounter too much traffic. As long as the bridge can handle the width (which it would appear to when we last visited and walked/drove over it, then access down the West side of Hall Hill - from Wilsham Lane - is an option.

Sid, I fear I may have been part of the catalyst for your post and declared withdrawal from this event. I offer my apologies for upsetting you. It was in no way meant and we where looking forward to meeting up with old friends and acquaintances, you being one of them.

At your mention of the narrow bridge, I thought I should check it out. My only way to do that at the time was to look on Google maps and Street View. Looking very carefully at those images, and from what I could see, I assessed that there could well be room enough for me to get our rig across the Bridge. I my post I do ask you the question about how wide you think the bridge is. In real terms asking for your advise.

I have just now called the Staghunters Inn and booked a table for two persons with one dog for Friday 25th (so I guess we'll be in the bar rather than the restaurant). Maybe the guy you spoke to was referring to the restaurant only.
Also I asked if access across the Hall hill bridge Which connects the village to the A39 directly to the north (I don't know if the it the bridge that you are concerned with, but I suspect it's another bridge you are talking about. My apologies if there has been a misunderstanding here). The lady told me that "it's the bridge the large delivery lorry come across" So I'll be coming that way and if it's too tight I'll just have to find another route into the village.
