Hi,
I have a 60CSx that is getting worn-out (buttons bad etc etc) and I just ordered a 62st: arrived yesterday.
However I didn't realize it only had a USB connection and is missing the robust 4-pin connector of the 60.
I haven't used it yet, so in principle I think I COULD return it and swap for the 78s.
The supplied topo map is no big deal in the 62st for me, neither is the camera option.
I use it on my motorbike as well as mountainbike, and the 4-pin is handy for running on my motorbike (BMW HP2 Enduro).
I just saw some posts on another forum about the relative merits of each:
http://gpsinformation.info/penrod/62S/62-78.html
They seem pretty similar.
Anyone have any input on:
- Relative merits of both: antenna reception, menu logic etc
- Charging the 62 series in a robust way
The forum says that:
- The 62 has a helix antenna (best reception held vertically), and the 78 (apparently) has a patch antenna, because the best reception is with it held horizontally.
- Both run the same software (so the forum says)
I was using the Touratech mount for my 60CSx mounted on a RAM mount, but I think I'd switch to all RAM.
If I keep the 62st I will probably buy the Garmin bent USB connector with converter to 12v and hardwire it into my system.
Any input?
Thanks,
Alan Jarvis
