Cb400/4

Mine......that I sold recently, this was a 4,000m from new bike, carbs and tank drained before it was put to bed in 1978!... which made life vastly easier, it started, stopped and ran like a watch.......but...... it needed winding up constantly to make it move and it has a heavy throttle which makes it feel even slower than it is.

With some regrets I sold it....they are a little diamond of a bike, but being three stone heavier than the last time I had one didn't help:blast

Before I bought my 400 I had a new RD350B, one of the very last ones, top speed was the same but the 350 was much more fun making the 400 quite bland by comparison.

Hope yer 350B was one of the faster silver ones.:beerjug:

I can remember when half of that bike was in boxes in my shed. I knew I should have ebayed all this parts :blast

Think you're mis-remembering. Your missus UR'd a frame to me from Neil Murray once but that bike used to belong to my old woodwork teacher.

Ah, I thought the frame that sat in our shed was the one in the bike and now I’ve had another think the multiple boxes were Neil’s and he didn’t know what he’d bought until he collected it. We were storing it all and he got an instant erection when he saw what was there.

I'm pretty sure that frame is now in Pats name and he insures it on the cheap to keep his NCD going :D

Edit: There was a discussion about the terrible handling of the bike in the pic. Champ blamed the tyres but I was worried about the frame.
So I bought a very cheap frame from Neil Murray but it was an F2 and Champ was right about the tyres......
(Although fork oil and new shocks helped)

Carb refurb

Got the carbs back from Holland after the refurb a few before and after pics

I had one of these, a F1 model, back in the very early 80s. Fair do’s, it went alright, it never, ever stopped or broke down, but bloody hell, it was soulless! After running British bikes like A65s and Norton Commando S Type, I guess it was hard to get used to. After one particularly boring ride to Lampeter one fine day, I got back home and promptly sold it. It was one of the few bikes I ever had that I didn’t feel any affection for whatsoever. I then bought a lovely R75/6 and I would still like another one of these!

I have had a few Jap bikes, including the Super Tenere that I have now, and I have enjoyed each and every one but that 400/4...... No thank you!
