Bought a new card for the 2610. Apparently, I need to format it but can't find any such option on any of the drop, down menus of the map source software. Any suggestions?

Shove it in your computer and format it through Windows Explorer or whatever they call it post XP

When you format the SD card you must use FAT or FAT32 file formatting - Garmin devices don't recognise exFAT (allows file sizes over 4GB) formatted cards. More info here.

Duh? Sorry, not got a clue. Can you explain in techno numpty terms please?

1. Stick card in your PC/laptop SD card slot - if it hasn't got one you have a problem!
2. Open Windows Explorer - right click on the SD Card icon (under Computer or My Computer)
3. Click on 'Format' - in the box that comes up make sure you have the following options selected...

Capacity - depends on size of card
File System - FAT32 (Default - usually)
Allocation unit size - 32 K

4. Give it a name and hit the Start button

1. put card in card reader in your computer.
2. open the item marked as computer on the start tab.
3. in opened window find card.
4. place mouse icon on said item and left click once to highlight, then right click to open menu.
5. in opened menu find format and double left click.
6. when warned about loosing data accept and tell it to do a quick format.

wa-la , all done.:thumb2

I only ever use SanDisk.

They come pre-formatted to FAT 32.
I've never had to format one yet & wouldn't have a scooby how to.
