Hello there everybody,

long time for me away from this forum.

I just got hold on a 3 years old R1200gs. she is nice but i want to put some adv items in it.

has anyone retrofitted a GSA fuel tank with all the bits to a normal GS.

would anyone know what is involved? in terms of parts?

thanks,

They are just the standard BMW ones as fitted to a GSA and yes they are pretty good

You can now get some high power LED spots for not much money. More useful (IMO) than the dip beam pattern of the OEM spots. Fit LED dimmers and bypass relays and you could have bright but non dazzling day lights with full power to back up main beam.

What was involved on putting on the bigger tank?

I had to swap out the front fairing/headlight support frame and replace it with a GSA one - the tank mounts on the existing rear mounts and locates on rubber buffers on the GSA front fairing frame . No mods to electrics or petrol pipes - the tank I got was a 2012 model so had a fuel sender with a float so works fine . Obviously all of the panels had to be replaced as did the petrol tank lock and key cylinder . Only took an afternoon to fit once I had all of the parts . Only mod was the oil cooler pipe support brackets and the horn bracket which were slightly different but easily modified .

This is my project. It had a front impact and i was thinking of turning to a gsa.
But also thinking of putting a Touratech Desierto 3 fairing.
So one of them but will decide when i get my front end done

Did you get he later model fuel sender to work with an older model ECU.
My fuel strip has failed and I'd be only too happy to upgrade it.

Yes and no - it works correctly when the tank is full - it registers as full but it shows empty after about 200 miles . At some point (probably over the winter when I'm not using the bike ) I am going to see if I can adjust the float valve downwards into the tank to see if that will correct it . Spoke to BMW guy who is guro on coding and it cannot be corrected on ECU program :-( . The other potential option is to mix and match from my old GS sender unit and use the electrical sender unit but with the actual float arm off the GSA tank - not sure if that would work either but if Plan A fails I will likely give it a try .

Just a thought - if your tank currently has the fuel strip your plug in electrical connector will be a three pole ? My GS connector is a two pole as the older GS had a float as well originally

Anyone happen to know when the TC fuel sender became the float arm type?
My TC GSA was registered Jan 2012 - would be nice if it didn't have the fuel strip.

No worries, i
i just happen to have etk on my computer. I just confirmed. Float is installed on all bikes produced from August 2010.

Bloody hell and I'm nervous plugging in a canbus lead...

Yea, no worries they are not that delicate as they seam to be. They can take a lot more!
