Hey all,

I tried searching !ESA but apparently there are too many results to show, so figured I'd ask.

Got on bike this morning, same as ever, but there is a yellow warning triangle showing and !ESA at the bottom of the LCD. (Bike is '14 R1200GSA).

I turned it on and off a few times, but the light and message are still showing. I had to use bike to get to work......though I assume the ESA is in a limp mode as the suspension felt like it was locked out......it was sooooo stiff.

Anyway, anyone know of any way to reset it. Can't think of any reason why it would have kicked in, last ride was pretty much motorway and dual carriageway for 80 miles on Saturday before the issue showed up this morning.

Any help on resetting would be great, as I don't live within access of a BMW dealership very easy.

Cheers.

Rob

I think you will find that it is a dealer job.
it may only be a software problem and need rebooting, it is not unknown for this to happen.

Hmmm OK cheers....it happened once before on my bike at close to 600 miles, but then it rectified with a couple of on/off's......no such luck this time though and over 15000 miles between the two incidents :-( Sounds like I am going to have to do the dealer ring round to find out who's got a slot!

Mine did it last year , just like yours , went very stiff .turned it off on off on then it seemed to reset . The dealer found nothing wrong but they did download some updates , hasn't done it since .Do get it checked as it seemed dangerous to ride at the time

It's all computers so try rebooting the bike I. E disconnect the battery and reconnect it. Might not work but it's a free try and minimal hassle.

Good point, I'll give that a try, limp home as need my hex tools as ones under seat don't fit the battery cover I don't think (may well be wrong there! ha ha)

Well I tracked down the office handyman at lunch, who had a nice toolkit with hex tool!! Hooray, whipped out battery and re-connected. Turned on, and it went through its test sequence and no ESA errors showing. Nice one!

Cheers for the suggestion, lets hope it doesn't occur again (or at least for another 15000 miles ha ha)!

Cheers all, have a good'un!

Cool, working in IT is useful for bikes now as well ;-)

Ha ha, I'd rather take on a bunch of networked servers than even the lighting system on a modern BMW......I just hope all us 'adventure' types have room in the panniers for a laptop, cables and small army of interpretation engineers for the data ;)

Hi ,Mines done it twice now. When left overnight before a trip to the dealers it reset itself, then t'other week in France it went again.Turned everything off and sat on a wall for a while and again it reset !!
Maybe being off the Bike will make a difference I don't know but anyway its going to Dealer on saturday to see if owt comes up on the Diagnostics check !!
