Looking at a pair of winter gloves, or at least gloves that combined with silk gloves and heated grips will get me through winter and beyond...

Can anyone tell me the difference between some of the various "models" outside of price?

Imatra - Apollo - Virium - Argosaurus...

What I'm interested is knuckle and Palm hard protection and a visor wiper. Which a lot of winter gloves don't seem to have.

which would suit my needs best?
Interested in any opinions...

Rather than a bod posting that they have a pair of Rukka Viriums and they are great, mate; followed by the next bod who says that his leaked, he returned them twice and still they leaked but then discovered that they didn't pour in water if he didn't tuck his jacket cuff into the gloves....followed by 20 bods telling you that one make is deffo better than the other.... Just Google each name one by one, read the descriptions and reviews on various websites and draw your own conclusions.....

Here's a nice start for you. The American motorcycle store Revzilla does lots of often quite good reviews, so I Googled (it really is a wonderful tool) 'Revzilla Argosuarus review' and... Bingo....

Here's Apollo:

Here's Imatra:

As a bikermate bonus, here's one not on your list, the R-Star 2-in-1:

And to complete your list, the same for the Virium glove, reviews by TranAm the UK wholesale importer:

If, having worked your way through Anthony of Revzilla's reviews, you think you might like to think about other makes of gloves, here's their review of assorted winter gloves for 2015:

It is worthwhile bookmarking Revzilla, not least as they do present pretty good and accurate reviews of lots of products.

Have fun!

Viriums are not winter gloves, they are more of a summer rain glove, but with heated grips they are OK in cold weather.

..

I have the Apollo's.

They are a waterproof summer glove. Ok down to around 10 degrees celcius for me.

That's not what he wants to know, he wants the nitty-gritty and a full description of every glove in the Rukka range, hence the dots after Argosauras, as he (maybe) couldn't be arsed to list them all. Of especial interest is the 'Palm hard protection'.

How else is a biker meant to decide?

Send him a picture of your gloves at once!

and before you go to FC Moto, try negotiating with a local shop. The likes of Tranam are taking the piss with their wholesale prices to dealers but it would be nice if we could keep local shops going so we have somewhere to try on boots, gloves & helmets. Three things where I find the fit varies even within the same brand, so I'm loathe to use mail order for them.

Wessie is spot-on vis-a-via the sizing issue.

I am generally a size 10 in Rukka gloves but for my Argosaurus gloves I had to go out to an 11.

For the Apollo gloves thst I wear over my (quit thin) RapidFire electric glove liners, I had to go right out to the largest glove they offer in that style. Silk liners, which the OP mentioned, will add some bulk (especially around the web part between fingers and maybe, depending on cut and finger shape, the finger tips) meaning the chap may have to go up a size or two.

There is a thread about gloves where Tossers assured a bod a certain size would fit, based on nothing more than their hands. The fellow ordered them from Germany (as advised to, natch) and.... Surprise, surprise... They didn't fit him. Try 'em for yourself, it's the only way you'll ever be sure.

Blimey, it's difficult this biker glove malarkey!

Rule out the apollo for winter !

Unless you are stuck on Rukka i would heartily record Klim gloves as an equally priced alternative

Don't forget to try the Alpinestars. My mate's mate says they are the dog's bollox.

Edit: I now find out, from my mate's mate's mum, that what he really said was: "Bollocks! My dog ate my gloves!" Which is not quite the same thing.

Just listen to wapping his is the only opinion that counts :D

I'm the only one to have sent him the detailed reviews he requested of the multiple specific gloves he asked about...

Your go, next.... :D

:beerjug:

PS My oversized Apollo gloves are great in winter.... With electric liners....

I offered a suitable and at least as good alternative ! :D

The alpine stars are actually quite good as i have a pair of their drystar range. not quite as good as the Rukka or Klim in quality but much much cheaper so my piss doesn't boil as much when the cat shits in them.

It really is the proverbial minefield as there are so many to choose from. Not forgetting peeps have different hand configurations in my case my thumbs are quite short and i hate a spare half inch of glove getting in the way.

I have Argosaurus they are a winter glove with hard protection, the sizing is odd so go Hughes from someone who will look after you.mmi bought mine in the shop at smart riders Christchurch. They replaced them when the hard palm protectors split.

Do you use your Argosaurus gloves through the entire depths of deepest winter, for prolonged (hours) use at a time?

Given that they are all but unlined , that's impressive :bow

I can recommend the Rukka 'Lobster claw' gloves. I have a pair I bought in a pre-summer sale in Stockholm at a very good discount.

Naff all in the way of armour or palm protection and you might think you look like a numpty. But, they work well in the warmth department and that's all that really matters.

Here's Anthony from Revzilla, again with his in-depth review to match the OP's clear expectations:

I'm going to be right again:

Fuck winter gloves - get heated grips & muffs
