Good evening; as the title suggests I'm struggling to fit the sra5108 mounting plate to my 2013 GS. It looks like it should all fit but the bolts to the rear foul the original black plastic of the BMW rack.

Any help greatly appreciated, I have emailed seller but I don't expect a reply till next week now.

I don't know what a sra5108 is if you could give more information and a photo or 2 someone will have the answer. JJH

SRA5108 is the mounting plate kit for the Givi outback Trekker.

I've now worked out the problem. My rack is the version that supports the vario top box. It would seem I require the original luggage carrier version. I think it's the black plastic portion of the rear rack that I need to source.

That's the one, I've worked out my original rack isn't the right one as it's got the vario top box insert fitted. Like in this link.

I think I've got two options; either purchase the normal carrier insert which I've not found online yet or chop the offending lumps of plastics off the vario insert.

I've got one in the shed - PM me if you'd like it :)

I've yet to hear any reason why the original rack black plastic part is fitted - what luggage is meant to fit the specific design?

Blast only just seen your msg. I've just ordered one on eBay.

I was very tempted to take a saw to the offending lumps and bumps.

The original lower section does not seem to have a proper purpose other than a way of being able to charge more for the change in part when the vario part is required, the vario version really should be the only part that's available if you ask me.

Totally agree. They're almost identical apart from the two lips and would save BMW money having to manufacture two different parts! To add insult to injury the GSA comes with a rack that's ready for the Alu topcase.

That's another good point; why don't the gs have the decent alu panniers racks etc instead of vario. Vario don't suit the bike that well and the bar inside makes packing it a right faff!

All sorted and love the look and the extra size.

If you are on tour and aren't worried about adjusting the size of the top box, you can always remove the bar.

I didn't realise you could remove the bar. That could have saved several months of frustration.

I must say I do prefer everything about my new Givi Outback Trekker 42lt box. The locking mechanism feels much sturdier as does the whole of the box. I'd say the size is a lot more usable than the vario and considerably larger than the BMW aluminium top box which is 32lt.

If you have got the vario set up already you will have top purchase the non vario lower section of the rear rack which can be found much cheaper on eBay.

The sra5108 is then fitted to luggage rack which then supports the top box.
