2018 KTM 790 Adventure

Yep. No issues. Sounds like a dodgy connection or a faulty battery to me. Plug in to charger see what it says? Fit to different bike try it?

Thanks for that, good to hear it 'should' work ok.

Just waiting for a charger to check it out.

Cheers.....

According to the manual for my Husky their performance drops off below 15c.

I get fitting them to an Enduro machine which are about 105-115kg fully wet, on a 1290S which weighs over twice that much before people add crash bars / sump guards / spot lights / panniers etc I doubt anyone will notice the weight saving, I would rather have the larger storage capacity over a higher cranking speed...

...which is only higher if the temps are well into double figures.

So far, my 1290 S is the only bike I’ve ever owned that will deplete a fully charged Li and acid battery sitting in the garage. It’s the only bike that I leave on a charger when not in use because they just don’t start on a low charge battery. No question in my mind that the starters on 1290’s aren’t up to the job. Compare the starter off a 1200 GS! You barely have to touch the button on a GS and it springs into life. Literally the only thing I don’t like on the 1290.

So just in case you miss my point....don’t fit a Lithium battery to a 1290. If you have a GS though, or a 790, most other bikes to be honest, it’s worth getting rid of that weight up high and enjoying the benefits Li batteries offer.

Bars for the 790. They look well designed. Giving

It does looky likey a GS one. But no, it's for the 790 18" although he did say it's not ideal for off road...looked plenty strong enough to me!

Probably powder coated as the exhaust doesn't seem to get that hot.

I was intrigued as to why KTM fitted the 790R bikes used by the journalists at the Merzouga launch event with Continental TKC80 tyres when the standard fitment is Metzeler Karoo 3. Was it because the TKC80 is better for the sand conditions at Merzouga, but the Karoo is judged to be better elsewhere?

The 790S comes standard with Avon Trailrider tyres but my dealer agreed to swap these for Karoo 3 free-of-charge before I took delivery. I'm now looking to fit TKC 80s which I've used consistently in the past. And then I found the speed rating on the TKC80 is only Q (99 mph) whereas the Karoo 3 is R (105 mph). And the Trailmaster is V (149 mph).

This might explain why TKC80s are not standard fitment. But are 790R owners aware that the tyres the bike comes with are only rated up to 105 mph?

I will probably still go ahead with the TKC80s as I rarely go near 99 mph, but this does explain why I was pulled over many years ago by the German police who said I shouldn't have been riding my BMW R1200 GSA with TKC80s fitted as they were a mismatch with the power of the bike.

TKC80s are fitted as standard to the 1090R in the UK and 1190R in other parts. Both are a fair bit quicker than a 790.

There's a circular sticker at the LHS of the dash on the R model warning of the tyre speed rating. :okay

I have mitas E09 on the back of mine and TKC on the front.
