2018 KTM 790 Adventure

I might have fallen through the 'sticker' net as I have a 790S which the dealer switched the tyres to Karoo 3 before delivery. Don't think I had a sticker. Anyway, I had the TKC80s fitted today and feel a lot happier to be on 'known ground' having used these on six different bikes in the past.

Yes I remember struggling to keep up with you in Morocco when you had them on the 1200GS :)

Yes the 790S, same as mine, is sticker less.

Just ordered one of these:

All in need is some fake carbon fiber stickers :D

Will post how it goes. What I do know is the stock bash plate isn't up to serious off-road action. My shoulder joint is showing signs of recovery (I hope) after an 'off' last August! Trouble with being into my 50's is it seems to be taking me longer to laugh off injuries. :blast

Right pasting today. Bike as good offroad as I remember but found I had to dial into it again. Such a competent bike. Tired after picking it up too many times though. Very wet muddy and I’ve decided to put different tyres on now. I like tubeless and actually like the Karoo as they’re good on road, but show them soft mud and the aren’t the best. Longevity not great either.

Any recommendations for good offroad grip but decent road manners?

Yes, sorry fat fingers. It’s a 50/50 tyre.

KTM at Sweetlamb now fit them to their bikes.

I was warned when ordering the E07 make sure I don’t get the E07 Dakar. Fitter didn’t know what I was talking a about, but I’m passing the same useless information to you !

Dakar has stiffer side walls, better for rocky/stoney shit when running lower pressure also makes fitting them way easier (NOT!).

FWIW I ran them on my 636 in the Pyrenees and The Peaks ~ great road tyre, great on dry rocky, gravely stuff, crap in mud........the blocks aren't very deep and look half worn even when new :nenau

Here they are just after fitting (note the yellow stripe; denoted Dakar version).

Makes sense, many thanks. I ran mine low in Iceland but they were still stable on road.

Just noticed your crutches, blimey you travel well prepared.

Jon - when you got legless in Iceland it was brought on by a combination of Guiness and red wine at the Irish Bar in Reykjavik. For Andres it is a very different experience!

Not me, I don’t drink.

Sorry for the hijack ladies, as you were :thumb

Pair of these ordered. Few issues with early ones cracking but hopefully sorted. Wanted the stiff sidewalls so i can run lower pressures. Will provide feedback but imagine they’re going to out play the Karoo’s. Hope so!

Interested in how you get on with these, especially for muddy UK trail riding. They're supposed to be rather good on bigger bikes like 690's and 790's. I've been using a six day rear on the 690 for winter but it's getting ripped to shreds rather too quickly.

On my AT I have TKC80 front and motoz adventure rear (motoz front supposed to be a bit shit)..

On my 690 i am running.
Michelin Tracker's with with mousse's..
Great mud plugger, noisy on the road, good road corner holding, (well for me)
Rear has done a mixture of.. Off rd.. On rd.. About 1000mls so far.. 11mm left.

Well I guess I’ll see for myself. Difficult to find expert reviews TBH. I doubt that the front will be worse than the Karoo.

I did find one review that said the Karoo wants to climb out the side of ruts. When you look at the profile it’s a U shape (scoop) as it roles forwards so I can believe it. So something like a TKC front probs wouldn’t suffer with this issue by comparison. Hopefully the Motoz will improve the front for me. Always feel if you can trust the front the rear can do what it wants.

Yeah, this type of tyre is fine for off-road. But truly dreadful on road unless you ride slowly. Dirt bike tyre really.
