'Adventure Country Tracks' Portugal route - looks interesting...

Some of the sections are pretty extreme for a GSA.

Just got back from doing the ACT

Most of it is doable on a 1200 but not all of it
Depending on your skill level it will be fun in places
We did it on Honda CB500X,s with a Rally raid stage 3 kit on it....To be honest they proved to be very capable and surprisingly good
Here is a few pics....Some of the tracks are a lot steeper than they look in the pics

Fab pics.
I have just been showing the wife the pics, she said if I want to do something like that go for it. Anyone arranging a trip next year by chance? :D

Looks ace

When you say most bits are doable on a 1200 but not all, were there obvious alternative routes going forward or would you say you'd end up back tracking a lot on the bigger bike??

We did a bit of backtracking on two GSA's. Particularly the bit with the bridge in the photos. The section coming down off the windmills/small church was also very committing and very loose. The rest was hardwork but enjoyable. It's always possible to miss bits out and go round. Deffo going back to have another go.

Probably not so good on your own ( depends on your skill/ self-confidence/ cojones).

The 2 bridges are the very tricky bits and would be very hard on a 1200
But you can work your way around them no problem as there is a option to take another route
I have highlighted this in red

Just be careful what you ride down because turning around could be a bit of a problem as some are very narrow and can change form easy to hard very quickly

There are also a fair few other bits that would not be easy on a 1200 but doable if you are a experienced rider

I.e this looks a easy ( the photo is deceiving )but the decent down in the background is steep and very rough with lots of loose rocks and was a challenge on the 500's

I will have a word with my mate because he took a lot more pics than me and post some more

Skill 2/10.
Confidence 6/10
Balls 9/10
Ignorance 10/10

Think I'll maybe have to give some of it a miss or enrol a fellow rider.

Just booked the ferry - arrival in Santander 13th September . Is it worth buying some more trail orientated tyres? Bit of camping lined up for us too :camping

EDIT: Monty - I'll call in on the way back, return is from Bilbao

Thinking of going back around then so if you fancy sharing the grief, let me know.

Hi all,

Anyone else seen this? BIKE magazine flagged it up last month, and it looks like it might be a really nice basis for a trip.

http://www.adventurecountrytracks.com/portfolio/portugaltrack/

Basically, the Touratech bods have planned a 5 day route from top to bottom of Portugal, about 50% off-road, mainly described as 'Easy/Medium' difficulty level. All you have to do is register on the site, then you can download a GPX file of the route, for free. Obviously nothing is really 'free' as such, but I'm happy enough to get some marketing from Touratech for their trouble in putting this together.

Nice to have something to plan towards on these cold, dark January days...

These seem to have gone! Would engine that downloaded them mind emailing them to me please?

Thanks,

Hi Berin,

I've pm'd you. Send me an email address and I'll pop the .gpx file over to you.

Max

Hi Brian,

Happy to pop it over to you. But before I become the de facto UK distributor for this file, has anyone double checked that it's really no longer available? The ACT site is certainly still there...

Ta,

Max

Thanks Jockser - I suspected that might be the case...

Hi Max. Still can't access it. Have tried two different email address and user names and it still wont allow access!
