Rukka - Is It Only Their Laminated-Shell Gore-Tex Pro Stuff That's Super-Duper?

Ive used a couple of good quality jackets with removable gortex liners (BMW Rally/Dainese) for a long time.

A few years ago I bought a nearly new Rukka Armas jacket featuring the Proshell system .

All I can say is the Proshell Rukka is light years ahead when you experience extreme wet or cold conditions.
I have ridden through torrential rain, snow and temperatures chasing -10 degs in the Rukka and it has been faultless !

It's only shortfall is when temps get really hot and then I use the BMW rally jacket with all its venting instead !

I bought both Rally and Rukka jackets used and for £600 the pair total, which although a lot of money, is cheap compared to new.

I think I've got all angles covered :thumb

I've got an Armas great but heavy and far too warm in Summer , prior to that I had a Rukka Marcos (cordura with a built in non removeable goretex inner liner ) again a very good jacket and in some ways better than the Armas ie lighter and a better 3 season jacket

I now in addition to flexius own a navigator jacket to. Flexius now will be my summer jacket and navigator when touring or autumn/winter/spring seasons are here. Bought armas at the nec show but returned it a week later as it was missing back protector tabs that hold inner liner to the cigs snapped off, and on the grounds of being sold as having D30 armour, it didn't have in it. Instead it had pre 2012 RVP Air armour. Meaning that jacket was 4 maybe even 5 years old when sold at the show.

Did you buy online or is there someone in Ireland 🇮🇪 selling them?

Given that there's a pretty wide range of types of gear that they do, from mesh summer gear to the laminated-shell Gore-Tex Pro heavy-hitters, what do folk mean when they state or claim that "Rukka gear is great"?

Parking for a moment the reported quality issues of the newer Asian-made stuff (these newer Asian-made garments still carry that lauded 5/6 year warranty, don't they?), is it the case that it's only these laminated-shell Gore-Tex Pro garments that have historically been highly regarded? Or is their stuff with Gore-Tex liners (whether removable or fixed) just as good? If you're not choosing one of their laminated-shell Gore-Tex Pro garments, then might you be as well looking at stuff from any other brand?

I had a search here for comments & info on the Flexius jacket, which has recently appeared on my radar, but there's not a lot. It looks like a decent piece of kit, and is much cheaper than even their "cheapest" laminated-shell Gore-Tex Pro jacket, but has a Gore-Tex liner (fixed, IIUC).

I have recently gone through a similar thought process as you. I wanted to get a decent 4 season jacket that would suit touring in Spain and then getting caught in heavy downpours in the U.K. in colder months. So I got a Dainese D Explorer. The venting is monumental, though I found almost over vented as it would puff up at the shoulders, and anyway as you say, vents not effective with the liners. It was OK in Spain up to about 35C, but then at that point it doesn't matter what you wear as it's like being blasted by a hair dryer.

But in the wet it gets sodden and heavy and as a result very cold. So I came to the conclusion that you cannot get a proper all season gear set up, therefore I switched and got a Rukka Navigator jacket, which is awesome, the quality is so much better than the Dainese. It feels bullet proof. This is supposed to be the Rukka pro shell with the best venting. Check out the Tranam (uk distributor) videos on YouTube.

So I'll use that for 3 seasons now, and get some mesh jacket for the warmer months with a waterproof over layer.

FYI, Dane's warranty is three years. The "Lifetime Guarantee" wording on the website is regarding Gerbing stuff.

I've found these 8 outfit options that I'm suggesting we check out/consider (just using SBS here cos it's a decent site for browsing - not necessarily gonna purchase from them). They're all made with Gore-Tex Pro laminate shell. I'm excluding for consideration anything not made using Gore-Tex Pro.

I'd love to hear comments - particularly regarding venting (waterproofing being a given) - if you guys have experience with any of them.

I've also just today learned of another jacket from Klim that looks really interesting - the Carlsbad - but can find very little info on it. Anyone seen any info or prices or review videos yet?

I have Outfit 1: venting is pretty useless- it is a cold weather suit and I wear something else in the summer time (typically Rokker jeans and a Belstaff wax jacket.)

Mate of mine bought a touratwat suit at last years open day camping thingie. Nice bit of kit but what I would call a proper RTW do anything suit. The inner suit has all the armour, tons of vents and is not waterproof....the laminated top layer is just that...a waterproof jacket. Weighs a bloody ton it does. 2 grands worth and he got it for 1200.....but the storm collar was 130 quid extra!

Rukka's navigator suit is meant to be an adventure cut suitable for the GS

This gear will be worn on a variety of bikes - 1150GS, FJR1300, GTR1400, GSX650F, 650GS... So "adventure" cut may not necessarily be an advantage.

Just been looking at both the Scott Priority jacket & pants (great prices for Gore-Tex laminated stuff - good call Younger06 :thumb2), and the Stadler/TT stuff.

The Scott stuff is handsome - just how I like bike gear; subtle and unfussy. Can't find much online to get myself informed on it. I did have a bit of a look at the Scott stuff in the tent at the TT event in Wicklow last year, and I did like it. Just didn't realise at the time that they do Gore-Tex Pro laminated stuff.

I love the idea of the Stadler/TT suit - a summer suit with all the armour in it, with a Gore-Tex Pro laminated shell. Huge money, but arguably a pretty complete solution to the "all-season" issue. BUT... in practice that's no different than using a ventilated jacket from one brand with a separate waterproof shell from another (involving the same rigmarole of donning/doffing the rain layer when necessary, scuttling the goal of not needing an over-suit), and that could be achieved for a lot less than nearly €2200...

Don't know what's going on with this post - some of the words seem to have become hyperlinks, but not by my doing. :nenau
