I've been wanting to get a blank key cut to avoid using the flip out one on my plip, to remove the seats.

BMW said they'd have to send it away to HQ and it would be a couple of hundred pounds! Timpsons don't do laser cut keys etc. etc. etc.

Then I found these guys.
I sent a good quality photo of my key by email; they sent me a paypal invoice for £16 and three days later I got the perfectly functional key pictured.

ordered one on 15 Feb from that company - still waiting...

I'm still struggling to understand why one key isn't enough.:nenau

I want to remove the risk of using the keyless fob to remove the seat and then ride off with the keyless fob still hanging out of the seat lock which may then fall out, leaving th ebike immobilised when you stop.

The key I have ordered will go on the same keyring as my house key and Givi key. It will unlock the seat if needed and the keyless fob can stay inside my jacket. Should they ever send it...

Just ping them a mail to ask about delivery. Something has obviously been overlooked. The guy's name is Ben Assender (or maybe he just likes bagging Munros) :P

+1

I was forever doing this on my keyless MTS. In truth, I still don't really see the point of keyless on a bike but my GS came with it...

They should get their stationery sorted out. And make their mind up whether they're Express Keys or Express Auto Keys. Mind you, having visited their shop at Green Street Green to have a chipped Aprilia key cloned, I'm not surprised they're in a muddle.

Nutty, I take that you have never been fully loaded two up touring, if you had you would not be asking that question.

I have, and never needed two keys then. I'm not trying to be an arse, but I've only ever taken one key/ fob with me whether I'm out for a day/ week/ month, and never had any issues, hence my question.

Lots of people are belts and braces types, just in case, i'll have a spare with me, you never know.
To-ing and fro-ing with luggage and bags, checking in and out, papers in the top box, bringing the the bike round to the front of the hotel etc. needs, if there is two of you doing it, two keys.
That is a recipie for divorce with one key... and for murder if a certain lady snapped of a plastic key in a pannier......when locked.......off the bike.
The second key need only be a plain key for locks.
The latest GS comes with GSAP and hill start as standard. I'd swap either of them for a spare key any time.
Only supplying one key is just being cheap.

Thats better ! off for a cup of tea.

I have a copy of the keyless key , similar to key in photo but blanked from a "Smart" car key apparently, £15 from local key cutter and I use this for panniers, nav lock etc as it's nice and strong. The keyless key lives in my motorbike trouser pocket so there is no danger of it snapping in the middle of nowhere. Works for me.

I've left the key in the seat lock several times already - usually in the garage when I have been stashing away the lead for my heated jacket or getting the manual out. There's a useful storage space under the seat for a cargo net, small torch etc on the R1200RS so popping off the seat is something one may do on a trip.

Anyway, it's my rationalisation not your's so :P
