Ok, call me cynical but it always rains when I visit the Ardennes so I thought I’d give you something to do when it’s tipping it down and you don’t want to spend all day in waterproofs.

Start off with the caves of Han-sur-Lesse

Ok, I like caves so I’m biased but it’s a good way to lose a couple of hours and you even get a chance to ride up to the top entrance in a rickety old tram and when you walk out by the car park at the bottom you’re not far from plenty of places to eat or sneak in a cheeky glass of Trappiste beer so everything is covered :beerjug:

Or just ride your bike! One of the best days I’ve had on a bike was a run from Luxembourg up to Bastogne and back via the Easy Company memorial near Foy.

Pissed it down the whole way best quiet roads and no distractions, the K 1200r was running like a dream!

It was one of the routes on rides 4 day Europe on a shoestring.

That insight into your life, interesting as it is, is not really the purpose of this thread. Any bod and his dog can ride around in the wet, broiling sun or on just a plain any old normal Tuesday afternoon. They don’t hand out medals.

Maybe it was meant tongue in cheek. ...not sure if it was a rebuff or just strange sense of humour.

Who can tell?

What of course the rider in the storm forgot is that to spend some time in the dry in the caves of Han-sur-Lesse might (depending on where one starts from in the Ardennes) require some exciting hooning along the wet roads of Belgium in order to get there and get back in the first place.

For example, Luxembourg (City of) to Han-sur-Lesse is over 100 kms, going through Bastogne on the way. That may well be further than our aquatic friend rode in the wet to doff his cap to Easy Company at Foy. Who then, out of the OP and bigmo476 would be the most heroic, now?

If it makes you feel better I did stop at the Battle Of The Bulge museum, but alas it’s closed on Mondays. So the OP could go there just not in a wet Monday in October.

The original thread was entitled “What to do when it rains in the Ardennes”, seems to me that riding a motorcycle is a valid option. It doesn’t say anything about alternatives to riding a motorcycle or things that it will help you to stay out of the rain.

Uncanny how you knew the purpose of the thread - into the mystic

Riding a bike in the rain is ok, I’ve done it plenty of times but every once in a while it’s good to have an option where you can park up and do some tourist type stuff and keep dry instead.

Now if I’d said visit the caves on a nice sunny day rather than follow a river through a valley or sit outside a cafe watching women walk past wearing only the bare minimum of clothing that would have been stupid.

Odd, but that’s exactly what the OP asked for, being: Suggestions on what to do instead of spending all day in a boil in the bag suit.

He’s started it off, so what suggestions have you got, beyond hooning yer steed through the puddles in an awsome manner? Don’t say, visit the caves, as they are already gone.

Aren't there any amusment arcades, with slot machines, candy floss and bingo?

If I see my uncle before he beats me to it, I'll ask him what he did int Ardennes when it was raining.

Don't hold your breath.

There’s a casino in Chimay where they may well have slot machines so you can go and blow some of your hard earned wedge but the casino won’t help much if it’s tipping it down and you want to shelter from the rain in the daylight hours.

You seem to doubt my awesome wet weather skills. We’re practically neighbours let’s go out together in the rain sometime!
