LOMO soft panniers. 100% waterproof plus they are very reasonably priced. and they do tank and tail and crash bar bags too

From the Latin Panis (bread) and Panarium (breadbasket), which became Panier in old French, and Pannier in Middle English.

Just wanted to share (and because Mrs SS7 asked me why the boxes had such a funny name).

As usual I have too much kit. I have the Bumot in metal and a set of Bumot soft luggage.

I will be selling the Bumot soft luggage when I’ve worked out a price.

I certainly like my Bumot soft luggage. Fitted it to my Gp450. I like the way the panniers lock to the frames.

I used to have the standard plastic BMW panniers on my 1150 but have now changed to a second hand pair of Jesse metal ones I got off here years ago! :blast
I finally got round to putting them on and think they’re superb. I replaced the old rubber top seal for a shiny new one so fully waterproof. :thumb2 They’ll do me for a few years.

Does anyone know if there is a metal rack that can fit to the 1150R? I'd much prefer to fit my Ardcases to it than use the system panniers as it's easier to pack. Anyone know if the rear frame is the same? I have tried looking but no luck. Physically inspected a few bikes and it seems they are the same but motorworks parts fiche doesn't quite make it clear

Ready to go

Just test loading it up for my trip to Nordkapp at the end of the month

What’s the verdict on the standard Givi trekker set? OBK4837APACK2 Presumably plus the mounting kit?

I’ve got the Givi trekker topbox already on my R1250GS and it seems pretty well made, and I think I can code all the keys to the bike. Seems like a sensible approach. Any reason why not?

Good luck with coding the GIVI lock(s) to the bike.

Let us know how you get on.

I recently acquired a GIVI top box and stripped the lock assembly down in the hope that I could figure out if the lock could be modified to remove the key in the “Unlocked” position.

No chance.

I’ll just live with the PITA feature.

I just lock the lock and take the key out, with the catch “open”, then close the catch. The catch goes over centre, stays shut, no problem.

If I want to lock the topbox with something in it, I unlock the lock, press the catch fully down, and lock.

And a second question about the Givi panniers, how wide is the bike with them fitted?

And a comment on LOMO soft panniers, used a pair on the Guzzi for the recent trip to Mandello, very happy with them and very reasonable price. Totally dry, easy to fit & remove, only downsides that I can see is they are not secure, and of course they’d melt on a high exhaust without a frame.

I have never had anything taken from soft panniers, but I have had hard panniers broken into.... I wonder if there is a psychological thing going on that suggests to scrotes that nobody would leave valuables worth nicking in soft panniers, but they would in hard panniers?

Softies act as cushions in a fall. Hard panniers transfer the energy right through and can bend the frame.

I went for LoneRider MotoBags. I only use panniers for tours and wanted something definitely waterproof, would/should be fine in a drop or 2 & not huge when on the Bike. With Molle attachments i can add other bags/items to them for quick access too - handy for waterproofs, water bottles, 1st aid kit etc.

Does nobody out in GS land have Givi trekker panniers?
It would be handy to know if they’re a good buy or not, and how wide they are when fitted, before splashing the cash!
